Okay, let's get to today's card! The technique I will be using today is water coloring and if you have an interest in getting into water coloring but don't know where to start, I think this may be a good starting point. I will be using my regular Distress Inks to do my water coloring along with water brushes. Today's technique requires very little shading, just adding color to the base of the petals and blending out. I wanted soft, subtle colors for this card and using the distress inks, I was able to achieve that look. I will be using a stamp set from Altenew that I used for layered stamping in a previous post, but today I will be using only the outline images to water color. I will be using the brand new distress color called Speckled Egg to color one of the flowers. This is a beautiful blue shade with a slight gray tone. I absolutely love this color!! With sixty (I do not own them all) distress colors out, you would think they have all of the colors covered, why on earth would you need more?! I'm telling you, I really did need this one!! LOL!!!
Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I place a piece of Water Color Cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep using my Anti Static Powder Bag. I choose the outline images from the Fabulous Florets Stamp Set and stamp them onto the panel using Versamark Embossing Ink. I then add Detail White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

Using the white portion of my Glass Media Mat, I press Speckled Egg Distress Ink, Tattered Rose Distress Ink, Bundled Sage Distress Ink and Weathered Wood Distress Ink onto the glass, this will be my palette.

I will be using two Water Brushes filled with clean water, one for adding ink and the other to wet each petal and blend the color. I also have a paper towel to remove color from my brush or to remove water if the brush becomes too wet. To start, I wet my first petal then pick up the color Speckled Egg Distress Ink and add it to the base of the petal. I then take the clean brush to pull and blend out the color towards the end of the petal, about 3/4 of the way out. I repeat this process until all petals are colored. This first layer is very light. I start over with each petal and add more color to the base and repeat the process. I end up with three layers of ink.

I now work on my second flower. I wet my first petal and add Tattered Rose Distress Ink, adding color to the base of the petal and blending out 3/4 of the way out towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process until all petals are colored. This first layer is again very light. I start back at the first petal, add more color and repeat the process. I end up with three layers.

For the centers of both flowers, I add Scattered Straw Distress Ink and a very tiny amount of Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I then lightly blend and press my paper towel over the center to pick up most of the color. I wanted a soft look,
The same process I used to paint my flowers, I do for my leaves. I wet the first leaf then add Bundled Sage Distress Ink to the base of the leaf and blend out. I add a couple layers of ink to each leaf.

Next, I add Weathered Wood Distress Ink to the base of my leaves and blend out. I go back and forth between the two colors until I am happy with the look.

After all images are colored, I fussy cut everything using my Razor Edge Shears.

For my background, I cut a 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" panel out of Neenah White Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I take my Fancy Diagonal Stripes Die and run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I remove the pieces using my Craft Pick. Using Liquid Glue, I adhere the background panel to a Barely There Cardstock card base.

Next I choose a greeting from the Stippled Floral Stamp Set and stamp it onto a scrap strip of white cardstock using Versfine Clair Nocturn Ink. I trim the strip down and mount it onto a slightly bigger piece of Barely There Cardstock using Double Sided Tape.

I add Foam Tape onto the back of my flowers and mount them onto the front of my card. To give a little more height to my blue flower, I glue three strips of scrap cardstock onto the foam tape. This allows the flower to overlap the other evenly.

Using Liquid Glue I add the leaves around the flowers. To mount my sentiment, I again use scrap cardstock strips stacked and glued to the back (a tip from Jennifer McGuire!). I use my Jewel Picker to add Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

These images were very simple to color, and I couldn't believe how easily the distress ink blended and faded out! It just may be my new favorite coloring medium!! I used the outline stamps to water color, but this stamp is also a layering set.

The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
