Hello and welcome to my blog!!
Today Monday, March 9th (MST) at midnight, is the LAST day that Scrapbook.com is offering 10% off site wide!! Use coupon code MARCH2020 at checkout. Also, all Scrapbook.com exclusive adhesives are deeply discounted. This includes adhesive runners, adhesive sheets, tape in all widths, foam dots/sheets/tape plus more! I highly recommend their adhesives, they are very strong!
*I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots - stand alone machines and bundles.
In today's card project, I will show you how to add color to the background of your embossing folder designs. I will be using a 3D embossing folder to highlight this technique. 3D folders give a deep, detailed impression and by adding ink to the background, makes the images even more pronounced! I will also be showing you how to create your own color coordinating cardstock to match your ink! Let's get started!!
I start by using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer to cut a 3 3/4" x 5" panel of Neenah White Cardstock. Taking a die from my Reverse Stitched Scalloped Circle Window Dies I position it over my Tim Holtz 3D Botanical Embossing Folder onto the inverted side to decide where I want to ink the background. I then tape the die onto the embossing folder to hold it into place. Next, I smoosh onto my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat, some Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Ink. I add just a little bit of water so I can pick the ink up using a paintbrush. I then dab the paintbrush onto the embossing folder around the inside of the die cut. After I mark where I want my ink, I take the ink pad and fully ink up the circular area. To double check, I hold the die over the inked area to make sure all of the area of the scalloped die will be covered.
Taking the white panel I earlier cut, I lightly mist the back of it with clean water (this helps to soften the cardstock a bit to prevent cracking when using 3D folders) and lay it into the embossing folder over the inked area and close it. I then run it through my Big Shot die cutting machine.
***Check your die cut machine sandwich order for using 3D folders.
To add some sparkle to the white images within the inked area, I use my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Glitter Gloss Pen.
Next, I take the same die from the Reverse Stitched Scalloped Circle Window Dies set along with a circle die from my Infinity Circle Dies set that is slightly bigger, and tape them together on the back side and cut out of Neenah White Cardstock three times using my Big Shot. I then stack and glue the three pieces together using Liquid Glue.
Using Liquid Glue, I attach the stacked dies over the inked area of my embossed panel and trim off the overhang. I then mount using Double Sided Adhesive Tape onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"panel of Storm Cloud Cardstock.
Next, I use the love die from Love Stamp and Die Set and cut out of white cardstock three times and once out of Storm Cloud Cardstock using my Big Shot. I stack the three white pieces and glue together. I then glue onto the single gray piece, offsetting just a bit.
To create a matching card base, I take my Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Ink pad and drag it along all four sides of my white card base until I get full ink coverage. After giving the ink a few minutes to dry, I mount my embossed panel onto the inked card base. I now have cardstock that matches my inked panel! I then mount the embossed panel onto my matching card base. I do this same method onto a small piece of white cardstock for my sentiment. Using my MISTI stamp positioner, I stamp a sentiment from the same set as the die with Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink. Next, I cut the sentiment out using Sentiment Banners Dies set, running through my Big Shot.
Finally, I use Liquid Glue to adhere my Love greeting onto the bottom portion of my inked window, and mount the sentiment strip using Foam Tape. I add some Pearl Gems and this finishes off my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card project. I don't feel that embossing folders get enough attention, and they give such a beautiful look! Remember, you can stretch the use of your ink pads by adding ink to white cardstock when needing a coordinating colored panel for your project. This is especially helpful if you are looking for the exact match to your ink! Even though it's hard to see in the pictures, adding the extra sparkle to the images on the inked area, really highlights them and gives a nice, extra touch.
If this is the first time visiting my blog, welcome and I hope you return. If you are a returning visitor, thank you so much for your support!
