Hello, welcome to my blog!
I hope your week is off to a good start! Today's card project I've named "spotlight" ink blending because the blending tends to look like a spotlight affect. I start out with a very light color of Distress Ink and blend through three colors getting darker as I move to the next color. I like to frame my blending with Black Soot Distress Ink as I feel it creates a lot of depth and finishes off the card nicely. I love creating backgrounds, then use a stamp with a lot of open areas or just a die cut greeting to let the background shine through. Let's get started!!
Today I will be making a larger than the normal standard A2 card. To start, I cut a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" panel from Neenah white cardstock. *I find Neenah is an excellent cardstock to do ink blending on. I prep my panel with my Anti Static Powder Bag. Using my MISTI I stamp my panel using Hero Arts Leafy Vines cling rubber stamp and Versamark ink. I emboss using Brutus Monroe Alabaster embossing powder and heat set with my Wagner heat tool.
Now it's time to do the ink blending. Using my Taylored Expressions Blender Brushes, I start in the middle of my stamped image and blend Tumbled Glass Distress Ink, going with a very light hand where I want my lightest area to be and then blend out around that lightest area. Next, I blend Salty Ocean Distress Ink and blend around the previous color, blending into it a bit. For my third color, I use Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink and continue to blend around the previous color, blending into it a bit.
I now add a small amount of Black Soot Distress Ink to the very edges of my blended panel. To intensify and blend my colors completely, I go back through each color and add more ink, blending them into each other until I have a seamless blend. I use a soft cloth to gently buff the embossed image, removing any extra ink. I then mount onto a 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" white Bristol Smooth card base. *I cut 5 3/4" x 11 1/2" from the Bristol Smooth, and score at 5 3/4" for my card base.
Next, using Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Background, I stamp onto Taylored Expressions Oreo cardstock with Versamark ink. I emboss with Alabaster embossing powder and heat set. Now, I use the Taylored Expressions Simple Strips Die and run it through my Big Shot die cut machine.
I now mount my sentiment to the front of my card using Darice Foam Strips, lining it up with my T Square Ruler. I added some Lucy's Cards Pearls Soft Snowball, and this completes my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card project. Using distress inks for ink blending is one of my favorite techniques. I normally would choose bright, vibrant colors, but today I thought I would try some deeper shades of blue, and loved the results!!
