Hello, welcome to my blog!
Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!!
To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat. Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil over the top of my white panel and tape down to my Glass Mat using Purple Tape.
Using my Versamark embossing ink pad, I apply ink directly from the pad onto my stencil pressing straight down with enough pressure to apply the ink through the stencil. I make sure all open areas of my stencil are inked good, then carefully remove the stencil from my panel. Next, I add Gina K. Designs Detail White embossing powder and heat set with my Wagner heat tool.
Now it's time to add ink to my panel. Using my Life Changing Blender Brushes, I start with Soft Stone ink adding in random areas. Next, I use Ocean Mist, followed by Turquoise Sea ink and Blue Lagoon. When adding each color, I blend into the previous color a bit. After all of the colors, I go back with Soft Stone to blend into the neighboring blues.
I cut my inked panel down to be 3 3/4" x 5". Next, I need to cut out a portion for my greeting to fit. I cut my top portion to be 2 1/2" long and the lower portion to be 1 3/4" long, leaving a 3/4" open area for my greeting.
I cut Fun Foam to be 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" for the top of my panel and 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" for the bottom portion of my panel. I adhere to my panel pieces using Gina K. Connect liquid glue. I like using fun foam instead of foam tape for larger pieces of cardstock as it gives a finished look and gives even dimension. I now take a 3 3/4" x 5" white cardstock panel to stamp my greeting onto. I set the white panel into my MISTI stamp positioner, then set the top and bottom panel pieces where they need to be so that I can line up my greeting. Once the greeting is lined up, I carefully remove the panel pieces and close the door of my MISTI to pick up the stamp. I stamp my greeting from Gina K. Designs Wealth Of Wishes using Gina K. Designs Amalgam Jet Black ink.
Next, I adhere my white panel onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" Gina K. Designs Stormy Sky cardstock panel. Using liquid glue, I attach my top and bottom embossed pieces over the greeting panel. Once the glue is set, I mount onto a Gina K. Designs Turquoise Sea card panel and my card is complete.
I hope you enjoyed today's card project and learned a new way to use your stencils. Using metallic embossing powders on dark cardstock would give a beautiful, elegant look also.

You absolutely make beautiful cards. I love your blog. I love your cards Statement Flowers beautiful colors and stencils using Tim Holtz’s new Distress Ink Kitsch Flamingo. Thank for inspiring us!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Chrissy for your kind words, I'm happy you enjoy my blog!! I love watercoloring and hope to create a card using it soon! The new Kitsch Flamingo is a beautiful color!
DeleteSo while your adding the ink how do you get it just in the parts that aren't embossed? I'm very new to card making and about to buy embossing ink and powder and make stencils on my cricut, any advice is appreciated!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog!! After I heat emboss the stenciled design, I then blend the ink over the entire image. Because the design is embossed, it resists the ink so that the ink only blends onto the cardstock where there is no embossing. I hope this makes sense? Enjoy your card making journey... it is so much fun!! :)
DeleteI'm glad Jeannie asked that question. Also, does the Versa Mark wash of the stencil easily? I'm anxious to try this!!
ReplyDeleteUse a little dish soap and water to clean the Versamark off the stencil, works great! Have fun!! :)
DeleteLove it and will use it on my next card.
ReplyDeleteThank you Vivian, have fun!!
