Gnome Valentine

Hello, welcome to my blog!

For today's card project, I thought I would pull out my little gnome for a Valentine's themed card. Seems like gnomes are so popular around Christmas time, but I think the cute little guy should be used all year round!

Let's get started!!

To start, I take a 3 3/4" x 5" white Neenah cardstock panel to do some stenciling on. I prep my Tayored Expressions Here Comes The Sun stencil by spraying lightly on one side with Pixie Spray, which is a low tack adhesive that holds the stencil in place while I do my ink blending. Using Taylored Expressions Blender Brushes, I start with Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink and blend starting in the center of the stencil, working my way out not quite to the edges. Next, I use Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink, again starting in the center working my way out a bit being careful not to cover up all of the previous color. I want the color to fade out into the white cardstock.

While the stencil is still attached, I take my Tim Holtz Sprayer filled with clean water and add some water droplets and light mist. I leave the water sit for about 15 seconds, then lay a paper towel over the top to remove the water. Next, I lightly mist some Inkon3 Liquid Pixie Dust with my Mini Mister. It's hard to see in the pictures, but it gives a light, beautiful sparkle. *I fill with clean water and add about 5 drops of the liquid pixie dust. I now carefully remove the stencil from the panel.

I mount my blended panel onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" Taylored Expressions Earl Grey cardstock panel, then mount onto a Taylored Expressions Lolly Pop card base.

Next I build my little gnome. Using my Big Shot die cut machine, I take my Simon Says Stamp Lil Gnome die and cut the backer piece out of Earl Grey cardstock. I use Lolly Pop, Earl Grey and Poppy Seed cardstocks to cut the pieces with the detail die. I use a little Picked Raspberry Distress ink and Weathered Wood Distress ink to sponge onto the edges of the hat, beard and shirt of the gnome. I now glue down my pieces to the backer using my Gina K. Designs Connect liquid glue.

To cover the center of the stenciling, I cut a heart out of Taylored Expressions Poppy Seed cardstock using Hero Arts Nesting Heart dies, running it through my Big Shot. Using the next size down, I cut a heart using white cardstock. I stamp with Picked Raspberry Oxide ink the small XOXO sentiment onto the white heart. I also use the smallest heart from the same dies, and cut out of Lolly Pop and Poppy Seed cardstocks. For my greeting, I use my MISTI stamp positioner and "Happy Valentine's Day" stamp from Hero Arts Love Stamp & Cuts stamp set. I stamp using Versamark ink and use Brutus Monroe Alabaster embossing powder. I heat set with my Wagner heat tool. I cut my greeting out with Honey Bee Sentiment Banners die using my Big Shot out of Lolly Pop cardstock, I also cut the same sized banner out of Poppy Seed cardstock. Offsetting the two banners I glue together.

To finish off my card, I glue everything down onto the card front and attach the greeting banner using Darice Foam Strips for a little dimension.

This completes today's card project. By changing colors, you can use seasonal stamps and die cuts to use for any occasion all year round.

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
