Pieced Together Alcohol Pearls On Black

Hello, welcome to my blog!

Today's project idea comes from a video I watched of Jennifer McGuire's where she uses Alcohol Pearls on black alcohol ink cardstock. I ordered some of the black cardstock and thought I would give it a try. After playing around with a few panels, I decided on one of them. I really love the look of the Pearl Alcohol ink on black and wanted to make it pop a little more so I decided to cut the panel up and piece them back down on black.
***I use 91% isopropyl alcohol in place of blending solution.

Let's get started!!

To start, I take a piece of 5" x 7" Black Alcohol Ink Cardstock and put down some isopropyl alcohol and several drops of Snow Cap alcohol ink to create a base for the colors to show up on the black cardstock. Taking an old paintbrush I move around the white to help it to blend with the alcohol.

Next, I add drops of the color Deception Alcohol Pearl and also Silver Mixative. I then take and apply bursts of air to the ink with my Marker Airbrush Tool to move the ink around. I add drops of alcohol to the silver mixative to get it moving more and apply more air bursts.
*A regular straw can also be used to move the ink around in place of the Marker Airbrush Tool. Once I'm satisfied with my panel, I set it aside to dry completely, for about an hour.

Now it's time to cut my panel apart. I start by cutting my inked panel down to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". I take my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer and cut my panel into triangular pieces. I move and cut my panel at different angles to get different sizes. ***Very important... After each cut, I number the back sides of my pieces to help make it easier to piece back together. You could also lay the pieces out in order as you cut them. Once all pieces are cut, I lay them all out in order to be sure I will be gluing them down correctly.

I then take one piece at a time and with my Gina K. Designs Connect liquid glue, I start gluing them onto a sheet of Gina K. Designs Black Onyx cardstock, starting on the edge to help keep the design straight. I glue each piece into place leaving equal amounts of space between each. Once everything is glued into place I trim my inked panel down to 4" x 5 1/4" and mount it onto a Gina K. Designs Stormy Sky card base.

Next, using Hero Arts Hearts Nesting dies, I cut a heart out of vellum with my Big Shot die cut machine. Using my MISTI stamp positioner, I stamp a greeting from Gina K. Designs Scripty Love stamp set using Versamark ink onto the vellum heart. I emboss my greeting with Brutus Monroe Sterling embossing powder and heat set with my Wagner heat tool. I also die cut out of black onyx cardstock the next size heart down from my vellum heart using the heart nesting dies. Using liquid glue, I glue down some jewels from Lucy's Cards Ebony Mix and Lucy's Cards Jewels Rainbow Sparkle onto the vellum heart and onto the card front. To adhere the vellum heart onto the smaller black heart, I add small amounts of liquid glue to the back side of the vellum where the jewels are adhered and attach to the black heart. After the glue dries, I add liquid glue to the back of the black heart and glue onto my panel. This completes my card.

I enjoyed playing around with alcohol pearl inks and the black alcohol cardstock. It is very different from Yupo paper. The inked panel itself didn't look too appealing to me, but when it was cut apart and pieced back over black, I thought it really gave it a nice look. Remember, even if you aren't pleased with your inked background, die cut out a word die, shapes or even a strip. You will be amazed at how beautiful it looks. I also think regular alcohol inks on Yupo paper would be great for this technique!

I hope you found today's card project interesting and may even give it a try!

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
