Majestic Peony With Color Bursts

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

Today, I will be water coloring the beautiful Gina K. Designs Majestic Peony stamp. This is a fantastic image to color and has several beautiful sentiments with loose, flowing fonts. I just love peonies and other open petal flowers for coloring, and this one is one of my all time favorites! I will be using Ken Oliver Color Bursts and coloring on Tim Holtz Distress Water Color Paper.
When painting with Color Bursts, I have a tin that holds 40 half pans that I have added the powders to then added a little water. I left them sit out and harden so that when I want to paint, I just have to touch my water brush to the color then add to my image. This is a great way to be able to take my Color Bursts with my on the go without having to mess with the powders.
Let's get started on today's project!!

***Added... Please go to the end of this post if you would like to see a picture of how I store my Color Bursts.

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the biggest die from my Stitched Rectangle Dies and cut a panel out of Tim Holtz Distress Water Color Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then place the panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep using my Anti Static Powder Bag. Next, I center  the large image from the Majestic Peony Stamp Set and stamp onto the top of my panel using Versamark Embossing Ink. I then add Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

I will be using two Water Brushes to do my coloring, one for adding color, the other for wetting my image and blending. To color my flowers, I add clean water to the first petal, I then start with Orchid Color Burst and add a little color to the base of the petal. Next, I take and pull the color and blend out towards the end of the petal. I continue with this process until all petals are colored. I add Wisteria Color Burst to the smaller flower buds with the same process. I then go back with Wisteria Color Burst and add to the base of some of the petals of the large flowers and blend out.

For the leaves, I add Olive Green Color Burst adding at the base of each leaf then blending out toward the ends.

For the tiny flowers, I add Gamboge Color Burst. After all of my coloring is finished, I add spatters of Orchid Color Burst using a small paintbrush. I then also add spatters of Gold Watercolor.

Next, I cut a 3/4" x 4 1/4" strip of Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and stamp a sentiment from the Majestic Peony Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink. I also spatter my sentiment strip with Orchid Color Burst.

I now add a piece of Double Sided Adhesive Foam to the back of my floral panel. I remove the release paper and mount onto an Edible Eggplant Cardstock card base. I add Foam Tape onto the back of my sentiment strip and mount towards the bottom of my card front. I add Water Droplets using Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and learned how easy water coloring can be. The Color Bursts are highly pigmented powders, it only takes a little to add bright, vibrant color to images. I really enjoy water coloring floral images and hope to one day learn how and where to properly add shadows and highlights. I have fun even though I don't know exactly what I'm doing!

***Added, I've had some comments on the way I store and use my Color Bursts. Here is a picture of the tin with half pans that I use as my palette. I was gifted this tin from my cousin, which was purchased on Amazon. Here is the link to the tin I have. Paint Tin

I learned this storage idea from Effie, owner of The Ton stamp company. I took a class with her at JunkieFest last year, that is where I learned to watercolor using Color Burst Powders, she is a fantastic teacher! Here is her YouTube link explaining all about storing Color Burst Powders in these tins. Color Burst Palette Set Up.

On a side note, I was carrying mine downstairs to work on a project and it slipped out of my hand, hitting the floor. Needless to say, the little pans fell out of the tin and now my once organized tin is now a hot mess and colors are all out of order, LOL!!!

This tin works great for me. If you love using Color Bursts, this is a great way to keep them!

The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
