Congrats!

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

Today's card features a technique where dark ink is removed so that colored ink can be added. There is a bleaching technique that removes ink, but today I will be using plain water. Adding colored ink to a dark background along with gold embossing gives a beautiful, elegant look. I will be using regular Distress Inks for my ink blending and Distress Oxide Inks for my coloring. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I cut a panel out of Neenah White Cardstock using my Stitched Rectangle Die, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Next, I take my Blender Brush and blend Weathered Wood Distress Ink onto the center of my panel and fade out toward the center. Next, I blend Stormy Sky Distress Ink around and fade back into the previous color. I then add Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink to the edges and corner of the panel fading back into the previous color. Finally for added depth, I add Black Soot Distress Ink to the very edges and corners of the panel. To finish, I go back through the first three colors deepening and blending into each other for a seamless blend.

For added interest and to break up the ink a bit I take my Distress Sprayer filled with clean water and gently spray onto the panel. I then lay a paper towel over the panel to soak up the water drops, leaving behind water marks. Next, I place my blended panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and choose a greeting from the Scripted Bold Sentiments 2 Stamp Set. I then place my greeting over the highlighted area of the panel and stamp it with Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink.

Before moving on to my embossing, I take my Ranger Craft Heat Tool to dry my panel and greeting. Once my panel is completely dry, I place it back into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then choose a stamp from the Precious Peony Stamp Set and place it at the top of the panel and around my greeting. Using Versamark Embossing Ink I stamp the image onto my panel. I then add Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. Placing my panel back into my MISTI I place the same stamp at the bottom of my panel and around my greeting. Again I stamp using Versamark Embossing Ink, add Detail Gold Embossing Powder then heat set with my Heat Tool.

Taking a small paintbrush and clean water, I begin painting each flower petal then pressing that area with a paper towel to remove the blended ink. I repeat the process for all of the leaves also. This process removes most of the blended ink but not all, however, it does remove enough to allow the colored ink to show.

I now press my ink pads onto the white area of my Glass Mat to use for my pallet. Taking my small paintbrush, I dip it into clean water then mix it with a little bit of my first color, Picked Raspberry Distress Ink and start painting my flower petals. *I was thinking of using a couple other colors that you see on my mat, but decided not to.

I also added a little Wilted Violet Distress Ink to some of the flowers and ended up liking that better, so I added a little water to the first pink flower and picked up the color as best I could then added Wilted Violet Distress Ink to the rest.

I wasn't getting the color I was looking for so I decided to switch to Oxide Inks for the remainder of my coloring. I pressed Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink and Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink onto my Glass Mat and started coloring the rest of my images. I first took Wilted Violet Distress Oxide Ink and painted the petals of each flower. I then used Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink to paint all of the leaves. The Oxide Inks gave a much better coverage that I was happy with.

I wanted to add a little contrast to the flowers so I added a little Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink to each petal. I did not have a darker green for the leaves so I left them the way they were.

Once my coloring was all done, I trimmed a piece of Double Sided Adhesive Foam using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then removed the release paper and adhered to the back of my panel, then mounted onto a Black Cardstock card base.

Using Liquid Glue, I add Water Droplets and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card! I really love the look of colored images on dark backgrounds. I had the idea of a wedding card in my mind when I was creating this card. With the gold embossing, dark colors against the black background and the black greeting, I think it works! One thing I discovered when adding my colors was that Oxide inks work best. With their opaque properties, the color really shows up well on dark colors. I see myself making more cards with this technique in the future!

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
