Altenew Watercolor Peony

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

Today's card features Altenew's watercolor paints. These paints have been sold out for a while and I just noticed they are back in stock! These paints are great quality, blend easily and have a good gradient color selection. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take a panel of Water Color Cardstock and place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then take an image from the Precious Peony Stamp Set and ink it with Versamark Embossing Ink and stamp my panel twice to get a good image as the watercolor paper is textured. I then add Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

I use Altenew Watercolors and two Water Brushes filled with clean water, (one for wetting the image and one for coloring and blending) to color my image. I wet one petal at a time and begin to add color. I like to add a little color at the base of each petal then fade out towards the ends. I continue adding color to each petal, being sure to wet each petal before adding color. Adding water first helps the watercolor to blend easily with no harsh lines.
**I am attaching a picture of all of the colors included in the watercolor set I am using. To color the flowers, I use the second pink from the left on the top row (Puffy Heart) and the third from the left on the top row (Purple Wine) for my shadow color. For the leaves, I use the first green from the left on the second row (Forest Glades) and a small amount of the first green on the left of the third row (Evergreen).

Next, I add color to the leaves using the same process, adding water first then add a little color at the base of each leaf, fading out towards the ends.

To add some shadow and depth to the flowers, I go back and add a deeper/darker pink where the petals overlap and fold. I also add a darker green to the leaves. Once all of my coloring is finished, I fussy cut my image using my Fiskars Sheers leaving a little white edge around the image.

Taking my Stitched Rectangle Dies, I use the second biggest die and cut out of Jelly Bean Green Cardstock running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then place the panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and stamp it with the Diamond Tiles Background Stamp using Versamark Ink. I wanted to add a soft, subtle design to break up the cardstock layers. Next, I add Forest Moss Distress Ink using my Blender Brush, I want to add some shadow where I will be mounting my image.

I now take the biggest rectangle from my Stitched Rectangle Dies and cut out of Plum Punch Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Using Double Sided Tape, I adhere onto a white card base. I then mount the green panel.

To add a little backdrop to my image, I take my Leafy Branch Die and cut out of Vellum two times and once out of Gold Mirror Cardstock running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Next, I cut each die cut in half then arrange and adhere to the back of my floral image using Liquid Glue.

I choose a greeting from the same Precious Peony Stamp Set and place a scrap piece of white cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner. I prep the cardstock with my Anti Static Powder Bag then stamp the greeting using Versamark Embossing Ink. I then add Detail Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. To finish off the greeting I cut it out using my Sentiment Banner Dies, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.

To assemble my card, I add Foam Tape to the back of my floral image then mount to the center of my card front. I then add a strip of Foam Tape to the back of my greeting and adhere over the center of my floral image. Using Liquid Glue, I add Water Droplets and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card project. I really enjoy coloring floral images and the Altenew Watercolors are easy to use with lots of color variations that make it easy to blend and create color gradients. This is a great set to start out with or add to your watercolor collection.

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
