For today's card I will be water coloring on vellum using Distress Oxide Inks. I wasn't sure if the inks would absorb into the vellum a bit allowing me to water color or if the color would just bead up. Turns out the vellum is porous enough to absorb the ink! Oxide inks can be soft and creamy on their own, but when painted on vellum it gives almost a frosted look, I love the results!!! I will be applying the ink with a water brush and using a stamp set from Altenew. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I place a panel of Vellum into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then stamp some images from the Fabulous Florets Stamp Set using Versamark Embossing Ink. I then add White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. I ended up stamping two sets of these images with a couple extra leaves.

Next, I choose some colors I want to use for my water coloring and press them onto the white section of my Glass Mat. I will use this for my palette.

Using a Water Brush filled with clean water, I pick up Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Ink from my palette and add to the base of my petal, blending and fading out towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process for each of the petals. I chose this light color to create a base for the flower as I want to keep the colors soft. *You could color on the back side of the image for an even softer look but I find it still gives a soft look when you color directly over the image, it is also easier to color within the embossed edges.

Next, I add Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide Ink to the base of the petal, again blending and pulling the color out towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process with each of the petals. With this darker color I want to keep the color concentrated around the base, any folds and where petals overlap.

At this point I decide to throw in another color blend for my arrangement. I add Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Ink for my first color layer. I use the same process as I did with my first flower.

I now add Shaded Lilac Distress Oxide Ink to the base of the petal, again blending and pulling the color out towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process with each of the petals. As with the first flower, with this darker color I want to keep the color concentrated around the base, any folds and where petals overlap. ***As I color my images the vellum starts to warp or curl a bit as it becomes a little wet. To flatten the vellum out, I place the vellum between my thumb and my Bone Folder and at an angle opposite of the warping, I pull it through... kind of like what you do with curling ribbon, if you are familiar with that. I found this method to work extremely well.

For the leaves, I only add Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Ink starting at the base of the leaf then blending and fading out towards the ends. To get the darker areas I just add more of the same color and blend out.

For the small areas in the center of the flowers, I add a small amount of Weathered Wood Distress Oxide Ink and blend. After my coloring is finished, I fussy cut all of the images using my Razor Shears.

Next, I take the biggest rectangle from my Stitched Rectangle Die Set and cut out of Neenah White Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then use Double Sided Tape and adhere to a Soft Stone Cardstock card base.

Taking my Fancy Thanks Die, I cut out of white cardstock three times and once out of Soft Stone Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Using Liquid Glue, I stack and glue the die cuts together with the soft stone on top. This gives stability and dimension to the die cut making it stand out more when mounted onto the card.

Finding adhesive that doesn't show through vellum when adhering onto a card is sometimes tricky, but I found these Zots Adhesive Dots to work great for these images. They are extremely sticky and just the right size! I add an adhesive dot to the back of each of the flowers and begin adhering them to my card.

For a couple of the flowers I wanted some dimension so I added an Adhesive Foam Circle over the adhesive dot then mounted onto the card.

Using Liquid Glue, I tuck in and attach the leaves then mount my greeting onto the card front. I then stamp a sentiment from the Statement Flowers Stamp Set onto a thin scrap of white cardstock using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink. I angle cut both ends then adhered over the greeting using Liquid Glue. Finally, I added a few pearls from my stash and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and give this a try for yourself! I am really loving the ease of applying inks using a water brush to my images, whether it be on watercolor cardstock or vellum, it gives beautiful results. Another great way to stretch supplies you may already have!

Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!    *I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -  stand alone  machines and bundles.   Today's card project is similar to yesterday's blog post using the shadow stamping technique, but today, I will be using a stencil. I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

3D Peony Bundle Embossing Folder W/Oxide Inks

Hello, welcome to my blog!!  I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!! I'm back!!! For those of you that don't know, I took a couple of weeks off to spend some time with my brand new grand babies!! We were blessed with two more grandsons (who are cousins, their dads are brothers!) that were born only two days apart! We now have three grandsons and one granddaughter and feel so blessed!! Today I am using Distress Oxide inks to watercolor a 3D embossing folder from Simon Says Stamp. I was blown away by the detail of this embossing folder and knew right away that I wanted to watercolor something soft. Having all of these raised areas to color made watercoloring so simple and really took little effort. With all of the dimension of the 3D effect it is easy
