Today's card project is a fun way to use the Fabulous Florets stamp set with it's coordinating masking stencil! Using the coordinating masking stencil is an easy way to be able to stamp or color light colored flowers on a dark blended background. I will be using regular Distress Inks for my ink blending and will be using Distress Oxide Inks to watercolor my images. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the biggest die from my Stitched Rectangle Die Set and cut out of water color cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. *Pictured is the watercolor cardstock I use and it is very good quality. I purchased it at Walmart for under $6.00!!

Taking the flower and leaf pieces from my Fabulous Florets Mask Stencil, I spray the back of each piece with Pixie Spray and let them dry for about 10 minutes. *Pixie Spray is a low tack adhesive that holds stencils into place.

I lay my sentiment onto the stitched panel to plan out my placement. I then press the masks onto the cardstock and remove the sentiment stamp. Using my Blending Brushes, I start by blending Weathered Wood Distress Ink onto the panel and over the masks, leaving a small highlighted area in the center where my sentiment will be.

Next, I blend Stormy Sky Distress Ink around all of the edges and corners, fading into the previous color.

The third color I blend is Dusty Concord Distress Ink. I again blend around the edges and corners, fading into the previous color.

Finally, I blend Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink around the very edges and corners, fading into the previous color. Once I am satisfied with my blending, I carefully remove the masks.

Next, I add Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of my panel to hold it in place while stamping with my MISTI Stamp Positioner. I prep the panel with my Anti Static Powder Bag then take the coordinating flower stamps from the Fabulous Florets Stamp Set and line them up over the masked areas. I stamp the images using Versamark Embossing Ink, add Detail Silver Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

I now lay the flower masks back over each of the embossed flowers then line up the coordinating outline leaf stamps  and again stamp with Versamark Embossing Ink. I then remove the masks and add Detail Embossing Powder then heat set with my Heat Tool. I now have white areas to watercolor my flowers and leaves.

Using the white side of my Glass Mat, I press my ink pads onto the surface. This will be my palette where I will add more ink as needed.

I will be using two Water Brushes filled with clean water, one for wetting the cardstock and blending, the other for adding color. I start by wetting my first petal. I then pick up Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink and add to the base of the petal. I then blend the color out towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process for all petals of each flower. This first layer of color is a very light wash and provides a base to the petals.

For my second color, I add Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide Ink to the base of the petal then blend out about half way towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process for all of the petals on each flower. I then go back and add another layer to the base of each petal and also the the areas where the petal may fold.

I now move on to the leaves. I wet the first leaf and add Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Ink to the base then blend out towards the ends. I repeat this process for both leaves.

To brighten up the leaves a little and add some contrast, I add Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink to the base of the leaf and blend out. I repeat this on both leaves.

For the very center of the flowers, I play around adding different colors. I don't care for the look I'm getting so I end up using the very center stamps for each flower and stamp with Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink. I'm not completely satisfied with this look either, but it is what it is LOL. In hindsight, I wished I would have tried stamping the centers with the chipped sapphire ink... maybe next time!!

I now place the panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and stamp a sentiment from the Heartfelt Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink. I use Double Sided Adhesive to adhere my panel onto a Kraft Cardstock card base. With my Jewel Picker, I add Water Droplets using Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and learned how to use a masked stencil to create white space for water coloring. This was the first time using a stencil of this type for me and now I want to look for more coordinating sets! I just love the look of soft pink against deep blues and purples. One tip for ink blending on watercolor cardstock.... use a light hand, you can always add more ink.

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
