Today kicks off a week of Christmas In July! I wanted to dedicate a week of Christmas themed cards for those that are looking for ideas to get an early start on their Christmas cards. Every day this week I will bring you fresh ideas to spark your creativity in making your holiday cards, including tags! Today, I have a card with an old fashioned Christmas feel to it. I love creating Christmas cards with non traditional colors. Adding kraft cardstock, to me gives off a vintage/old fashioned look. Today's card has a snowflake theme, to pull in the feel of snow, I will be adding texture to the background using some texture paste. I will be die cutting a couple of snowflakes for my focal point and running vellum through an embossing folder to tie it all together. Using embossing folders with vellum gives a beautiful frosted look which ties in perfectly with today's theme. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the smaller die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Mermaid Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Next, I spray my Speckles Stencil with Pixie Spray and let it sit for a few minutes to dry. I then place onto my panel and press to adhere. Taking my Palette Knife, I add Texture Paste to the top of the stencil then spread over the entire design. I then carefully remove the stencil and set the panel aside to dry for about 20 minutes while I worked on the other elements of my card. *After using any kind of paste or gel, I like to place a piece of Press N Seal over the top before replacing the lid. This helps prevent the product from drying out. As soon as I am finished with my knife and stencil, I place them into a container filled with warm soapy water. This helps keep the product from drying onto things until I can clean them.

While my panel dries, I cut a 1 1/4" x 4 1/4" strip of Vellum using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then place the strip into my Jeweled Snowflakes 3D Embossing Folder and run them through my Big Shot. *Be sure to check your sandwich order on your die cut machine when using 3D embossing folders. **Vellum can sometimes crack when using an embossing folder. If you find you are having a problem with this, first lay a piece of cardstock into your folder then lay your vellum on top, close the folder then run through your machine, this should help.

Now that my panel is dry, I add some Double Sided Tape to the top and bottom of the back. I then lay my vellum over the front, left side of my panel then carefully fold the edges over the top and bottom and press onto the adhesive.

Using the bigger die from my Stitched Rectangle Die Set, I cut out of Neenah White Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. I again use Double Sided Tape to adhere my textured panel onto the white stitched panel, making sure to add adhesive over the area where the vellum was adhered.

Next, I take a piece of  Double Sided Adhesive Foam and trim it down to be 3 3/4" x 5" using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I remove the release paper and adhere to the back of the stitched panel then mount onto a Kraft Cardstock card base.

Taking my Snowflake 4 Die, I cut out of Kraft Cardstock. I also take my Snowflake 1 Die and cut out of Mermaid Cardstock, running them all through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue, I layer and adhere the two snowflakes together. I then take a Foam Circle and adhere to the back and mount onto the front of my card. *After the dies are mounted I add a little bit of liquid glue to a thin strip of scrap cardstock and slide it under the vellum just behind the dies then press down to pick up the glue. I then remove the strip and hold down on the die cuts for a few seconds until the glue sets a little. This helps to give some stability to the vellum with the weight of the die cuts.

Next, I place a scrap piece of white cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and choose a sentiment from the Christmas Sentiments Stamp Set. Using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink, I stamp my sentiment. I then trim it to a small strip using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer and angle cut each end. Before adhering to my card, I glue two thin strips of cardstock to the back of my sentiment, this gives a little dimension without adding foam tape. I then add Liquid Glue and mount over the snowflake. To finish, I add a pearl gem from my stash to the center of the snowflake and this completes my card.

I had so much fun making today's card!! Snowflakes are my absolute favorite Christmas/winter things to use for card making! There is such a huge variety of stamps and dies to choose from. I really have to control myself and realize that I can only have so many, LOL. I hope you come back tomorrow and the rest of the week to see more Christmas card ideas!

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
