For today's card, I will be water coloring using Ken Oliver Color Bursts. I love all different kinds of water coloring mediums but when I pull out my Color Bursts, I forget how much I love them!! The bright, vibrant pigments are so easy to use, the water does the work for you! I will be using a stamp set from Altenew and stamp set from Penny Black. To layer my image, I will be using the Master Layouts 1 Die Set from Gina K. Designs. These very popular dies, as of now are back in stock!! If you struggle with getting even borders with your layered mats, you will love these dies as they give an even, perfect border every time! There is also layered dies for an oval greeting and a smaller rectangle included in the set. Ok, let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the smaller rectangle die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Watercolor Cardstock and run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then place the panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep with my Anti Static Powder Bag. To figure out my stamp placement, I temporarily set my greeting and sentiment then choose two images from the Precious Peony Stamp Set and lay them out over my panel. Once I'm happy with the placement I remove the greeting and stamp my images using Versamark Embossing Ink. I then add Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

For my water coloring, I will be using the Essentials Color Burst Set along with two Water Brushes filled with clean water, one for wetting the image and blending, the other for adding color. I also keep a paper towel near by to remove color or water from my brushes if they get too wet. I start by wetting my first petal with water then add a small amount of Marsala Color Burst to the base of the petal. With the other water brush, I pull and blend the color out about 3/4 of the way out towards the end of the petal. I repeat this process for each petal on all of the flowers, including the buds. This first layer will be my base.

Going back with the same color, I again add color to the base of each petal then use my clean water brush to blend out a bit, not going out as far as my base color. Even though I'm using the same color, I am getting different shades by adding more color and blending out. I like to keep some of the areas  darker like at the base and where petals overlap or curl as this is where shadows would be.

For the leaves, I wet the leaf and add Cabbage Color Burst to the base then blend out with my clean water brush. I repeat this process for all of the leaves. After all leaves have been colored, I go back with the same color and again add to the base of the leaves and blend out a bit. Again, I am only using one color. This color has green and brown tones in it which gives it a great look for leaves.

I decide I want to tone down the brightness of my panel so I stamp my images on Masking Magic Masking Paper and fussy cut using my Razor Shears. I then place the masks over my images and use my Blender Brush to lightly blend Weathered Wood Distress Ink over the entire panel. This was a very light blend that doesn't really show too much, just enough to dull the brightness of the cardstock and pairs nicely with the water colored images. *The second picture shows the blending. I then carefully remove the masks.

Next, I press Black Soot Distress Ink onto my Glass Mat then take my wet Water Brush and mix into the black ink. I then spatter over my panel lightly to add a little interest. After the spatters dry, I place the panel into my MISTI and stamp a sentiment from the Million Thanks Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink.

I then choose one of the greetings from the same stamp set, line it up just under the sentiment and stamp using Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink. I loved the results!!

Taking the bigger rectangle die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set, I cut out of Black Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. I then adhered the two panels together using Double Sided Tape then mounted onto a Plum Punch Cardstock card base. Using my Jewel Picker, I added Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and learned a little bit about Color Bursts. If you have an interest in water coloring and have never used Color Burst Pigments, I highly encourage you to give it a try. These pigments come in powder form and can be mixed with water into small wells to create a hardened form that is great for detailed water coloring. **Here is a video showing where I got the idea to make up my palette. Color Burst Palette Set Up These powders also work great for creating backgrounds, just lightly tap onto water color cardstock and mist with water for an instant background. I forget how wonderful Oxide Inks work for stamping! I was impressed with the crisp results I got from stamping my greeting with oxide ink, especially on water color cardstock which is textured.

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
