Statement Flowers

Hello, welcome to my blog!! Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoy what you see and pick up a couple of tips along the way!

Ok, now for today's card! I will be water coloring the image from Altenew's Statement Flowers Stamp Set. It's name says it all, this image is huge and takes up the entire card front! For my water coloring, I will be using Altenew's 36 Pan Watercolor Set. I chose to add soft colors to my image today and these paints worked perfect for the look I was going for. There wasn't a whole lot of background showing on my card but I didn't want to leave it plain, so I used a stencil and softly blended some gray Distress ink to add a little interest.
Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass media Mat.

To start, I take a panel of Distress Watercolor Cardstock and place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner. I prep the panel with my Anti Static Powder bag and stamp the image from the Statement Flowers Stamp Set using Versamark Embossing Ink. I add Detail Silver Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

For my coloring, I will be using my Altenew 36 Pan Watercolor Set. I will be using two Water Brushes filled with clean water for my painting, one for adding water and blending, the other for adding color. I also have a paper towel that I use to dab color off the brushes or to remove water if the brush gets too wet. I start by wetting a petal with the brush, then add the color Mountain Mist to the base of the petal. I then take my other water brush and blend and pull the color out towards the end of the petal to lay down a base color. I repeat this process until all of the petals on my first flower are colored.

I now add the color Lagoon to the base and any other areas I want to be a little darker then blend out.

To deepen the shadow areas and where petals overlap each other or petal curl, I add the color Dusk and blend out.

I repeat the same process for my second flower, to start I add the color Fresh Lemon to the base of each petal then take my other water brush and blend the color out towards the end of the petal. ***I apologize for these sideways pictures, I forgot to rotate them before uploading, ugh!!!

The next color I add is Sunkissed. I repeat the process adding to areas I wanted a little darker and blend out.

I wanted the flower to be a little brighter in color so I added the color Autumn Blaze and repeated the process.

For my darker shadow areas and where petals overlap I add very small amounts of Espresso for added depth and blend out.

For the leaves, I start by adding a base color using the color Forest Green. I add the color to the base of each leaf then blend out towards the end of the leaf. I repeat the process until all leaves are colored.

Next, I add the color Evergreen and blend out. I repeat this process on each leaf.

For the base of each leaf and to add shadows where there is overlap, I apply the color Espresso and blend out. I really like the results of this color and thought it blended well with the greens.

For the center of the blue flower, I started by adding the color Fresh Lemon then ended up adding Espresso. Once my coloring is finished, I fussy cut the entire image using my Razor Edge Sheers. There is a Statement Flowers Die available for purchase also.

For the background, I cut a 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" panel out of Neenah White Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then take the biggest die from my Stitched Rectangle Die Set and run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Taking my Spiral Stencil, I attach it to my white panel using Purple Tape. I then take my Blender Brush and lightly blend Weathered Wood Distress Ink, fading out towards the edges of the panel. Next, I adhere my blended panel onto a Mermaid Cardstock card base using Double Sided Tape.

For my sentiment, I take my Sentiment Banners Die and cut out of white cardstock using my Big Shot. I then place the negative piece into my MISTI and place the banner back into the negative piece. I place a sentiment from the Wild Flora Stamp Set over the banner and stamp using Versafine Clair Ink. *I like to first cut out my banner then stamp onto it. I find it easier to line up the sentiment.

Finally, I add Foam Tape to the back of my floral image and adhere to the front of my card. I also add a strip of Foam Tape to the sentiment and mount over my image. I use my Jewel Picker to add Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

There were a lot of pictures on today's blog, but I wanted to show you detail of each step. I went with three colors on each flower, two colors would have been just as beautiful. This was a fun stamp to color and quite easy too! Altenew hit it out of the park with this set!
