Heat Embossed Stencil

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

Today, I have a clean and simple card for you. I will be doing some ink blending using a stencil and I show you how to heat emboss the blended image. For today's card, I will be using Gina K. Designs cardstock, ink and products. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I cut a 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" panel out of Heavy Base White Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Using Purple Tape, I adhere my panel onto the back of my Thick Brush Stencil. Taking my Blender Brushes, I blend Wild Lilac Ink over the center of the stencil, fading out a little. Next, I add Blue Raspberry Ink around the previous color, fading out a bit further. I now blend Wild Dandelion Ink, blending around the previous color, and blending back into it to create my green color. Next, I blend Passionate Pink Ink around the corners and edges of the panel, blending back into the previous color to create my orange.

Taking my Embossing Reinker, I add a few drops onto my Glass Media Mat. I then take a Blending Tool with a foam pad and pounce it onto the embossing ink until the foam pad is saturated. Keeping the stencil attached to my inked panel, I pounce the foam pad over all of the areas of the stencil being sure to cover all of the inked areas well.

I now carefully remove the stencil from the inked panel, add Detail Clear Embossing Powder, tap off the excess powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

Next, I take a 3 3/4" x 5" panel of Heavy Base White Cardstock and position my inked panel over it at an angle. I flip the two panels over and trace with a pencil around the white panel so that I know where to add the adhesive. I then add Terrific Tape along the inside edges of the pencil marks and center. I remove the release paper from the tape and adhere down onto the white panel using the pencil marks as a guide.

Using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer, I cut off all over hang from my panel. I then adhere onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" panel of Black Onyx Cardstock. I take a 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece of Double Sided Adhesive Foam for a little dimension and adhere it to the back of my panel then adhere to a Lipstick Cardstock card base using Terrific Tape.

For my sentiment, I take a 3/4" x 3 3/4" strip of white cardstock and place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner. I then stamp a sentiment from the Scripty Sayings 1 Stamp Set using Amalgam Ink. Finally, I adhere the sentiment onto a 1" x 3 3/4" strip of Lipstick Cardstock.

Using Foam Tape, I adhere the sentiment strip onto the front of the card. I add Rainbow Jewels from my stash using Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

Adding heat embossing to a blended stencil image, really steps up the look by adding shine and dimension. Gina K. Designs offers stencils in many different, unique designs that would work beautifully with this technique!

  1. Thank you for sharing this beautiful card/technique! I was recently trying to figure out how to emboss over a stencil and didn't think to use a blending tool with foam pad. This helps a lot!

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
