Hello, welcome to my blog!!
Today's card has a bit of a vintage feel using black and gray tones along with a 3D embossing folder. Bringing in silver heat embossing ties everything together. For my ink blending, I will be using regular Distress Ink. The stamp set I chose ties in and almost matches the embossing folder creating a nice flow. Ink blending your cardstock and sentiment makes everything match beautifully rather than trying to find cardstock to match. Whenever matching cardstock isn't available, remember to use your ink to color your cardstock for a perfect match everytime!
Let's get started!!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start, I take a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel of Neenah White Cardstock and the biggest die from my Stitched Rectangle Die Set, I also take the sixth biggest circle die from my Infinity Circle Dies placing towards the top of the panel and taping down using Purple Tape, then run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.
Using my Blender Brushes, I blend Weathered Wood Distress Ink around the outside edges and corners of the panel fading out towards the circle window. Next, I take Black Soot Distress Ink and blend the very edges and corners, fading into the previous color. To finish, I go back with Weathered Wood Distress Ink blending the two inks together to create a soft gradual blend.
Next, I take a Black Cardstock side folding card base and center my blended panel over it. I take a pencil and lightly trace around the circle opening. This will be the area where my stamping will show through so I will be focusing my stamping in that area.
I now take my blended window panel and center it over a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of Masking Magic and again trace the inside of the circle window with a pencil. I then take the next size bigger circle die from my Infinity Circle Die Set and center it over the penciled circle line then run through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.
Taking the mask, I remove the release paper and position over my black card base. Next, I place the card base into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and hold it down with the bar magnet.
*A tip for placing a full mask onto a panel evenly is to remove or peel back the release paper from either one corner or one side of the mask, line up the opposite side that still has the release paper attached then press down on the tacky end. Slowly remove the rest of the mask as you press into place.
Before stamping, I prep the circle area with my Anti Static Powder Bag. Using the Persian Motifs Stamp Set, I fill the circle area with multiple stamps, positioning the stamps close together. I pick up the stamps with the door of the MISTI and stamp onto my panel using Versamark Embossing Ink. I add Detail Silver Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. I let the panel cool for a minute then carefully remove the mask.
I now take my blended window panel and place into my Botanical 3D Embossing Folder, then run through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. *Be sure to check the sandwich order for your die cut machine with using 3D folders.
I now trim a 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" piece of Double Sided Adhesive Foam with my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Again, I trace with pencil the circle window then cut out using the bigger die as I did for my stamping, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Finally, I adhere to my embossed card base.
To give a finished look to my circle window, I take the two circle dies I've been using (6th & 7th biggest) from my Infinity Circle Die Set, center them together cut side down then add Purple Tape to hold them together. I take them with a piece of black cardstock and run through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.
Using my Versamark Embossing Ink Pad, I press onto my die cut frame. Once it is full of ink I add Detail Silver Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. I repeat this process about four times until the frame has a nice even look.
For my greeting, I take a scrap strip and blend Weathered Wood Distress Ink onto it to tie in with the blended background. I then place into my MISTI and stamp a greeting from the Precious Peony Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink. I want my greeting to set behind my frame so I take the bigger circle die, place over my greeting strip and hold it in place using Purple Tape then run it through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.
Using Liquid Glue, I add small drops to each end of the greeting strip then place my embossed frame over the top and press to adhere.
To give the greeting some stability, I add a couple of thin strips from the foam I trimmed down earlier. This helps hold everything in place. I add Liquid Glue around the frame then set into the window opening over the embossed images and hold into place for a few seconds until the glue sets. Finally, I add some pearls from my stash using Liquid Glue and this completes my card.
This was a fun card to see come together. Adding an embossing folder to a blended panel gives a nice look with the different gradients and blends. I think this card would make a beautiful wedding card, or even graduation card. I could even see giving for a 25th wedding anniversary card! Something with silver against black and gray colors really gives off an elegant look.
