Perfect Pearls Watercolor

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Today I have a fun card project to share with you, water coloring with Perfect Pearls! I've wanted to watercolor with metallic paints on black cardstock but I do not own any metallic watercolors so I thought I'd give Perfect Pearls a try. Boy oh boy do I love the results!! Perfect Pearls are pigment powders with pearlescent shine that can be used wet or dry. I have another blog showing how to use them dry, if you are interested in seeing that post, just type in "Perfect Pearls w/Stencil" in the search bar located at the top of my blog. I will be using a stamp set from Altenew which I emboss to frame my panel with a floral swag on opposite corners. Perfect Pearls are available in many colors, but today I chose Perfect Pearl and Perfect Bronze to keep it simple and elegant. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start I use my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer to cut a 4" x 5 1/4" panel out of Black Cardstock. I then place the panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner. Taking an image from the Precious Peony Stamp Set I place it over the top right corner of my panel, letting it hang off the edges a little then pick it up with the door of my MISTI. I then prep the panel with my Anti Static Powder Bag. Next, I ink up the stamp with Versamark Ink and stamp it onto my panel then add Silver Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool. *I leave the stamp attached to my MISTI as I will be stamping my panel again and want to keep the stamp in the same position.

I place the panel back into my MISTI, rotating it so I can stamp the opposite corner. I again prep the panel with my Anti Static Powder Bag and stamp the same image with Versamark Ink, add Silver Embossing Powder then heat set with my Heat Tool.

Now it's time to paint! I will be using a water brush along with two paintbrushes to apply the pearls (one to add color and one to spread/blend the color). Using the white area of my Glass Mat I add a small amount of Perfect Pearl Powder then add a few drops of water and mix together. Taking my Water Brush filled with clean water I wet my first petal. *The cardstock will absorb the water a bit so I want to add enough water to keep the area wet until I add the color, but not too wet. I then pick up the pearl mixture (color) with a small damp paintbrush and touch the base of the petal with it. Using the tip of my second damp paintbrush I pull/blend the color out about 3/4 of the way towards the end of the petal so that there is some black showing at the tips. *If the color spreads out too far, I take my second brush and "push" the color back a bit towards the base where it was added.

I repeat this process for each of the petals on all flowers. My goal is to add the color to the base of each petal and have it fade out towards the ends. *I use a paper towel to blot my second paintbrush onto if it becomes too wet. After my flowers are painted, (I did go back and add this color to the small buds as well) I rinse off my two paintbrushes under running water to remove the color.

For my second color, I add a small amount of Perfect Bronze Powder onto the white area of my Glass Mat and add a few drops of water and mix together. I then take my Water Brush to wet my first leaf. Next, I use my small paintbrush to pick up the color and touch the tip of the brush to the base of the leaf. *In this picture you can see how the pearls spread out towards the end when coming into contact with the wet leaf. I then use my second paintbrush to pull the color out about 3/4 of the way towards the end of the leaf. I repeat this process for all of the leaves. *If the color spreads out too far, I take my second brush and "push" the color back a bit towards the base where it was added.

Once my coloring is completed and dried, I place the panel back into my MISTI. I choose a greeting from the same Precious Peony Stamp Set and line it up on the center of the panel then pick it up with the door of my MISTI. I prep the center with my Anti Static Powder Bag then stamp the greeting with Versamark Ink, add Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool

Taking a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Black Cardstock, I score it down the middle at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. I then take a strip of Purple Tape and adhere it along the score line so that only the front of the card base will be showing. I then make up a mixture of the Perfect Bronze Powder and water that I will use to create a border for my card. Using a paintbrush I pick up some of the mixture and brush it onto all four edges of my card front. I let the card front dry for a few minutes then carefully remove the tape and fold my card base in half creating my card. *A small amount of the mixture did seep under the card front. To prevent this, you could cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of the black cardstock to create this border with then adhere it onto a black card base.

Using Double Sided Tape I center my panel over the card base and adhere down. I now have a border around my panel that coordinates with the color of my leaves.

Using some of the leftover mixtures, I spatter a small amount of the Perfect Pearl and Perfect Bronze over the center of my card front with a small paintbrush. To finish, I use my Jewel Picker to add Dazzling Diamond Rhinestones with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I had a lot of fun creating this card not knowing what the results would be! These metallic colors along with the embossing over the black cardstock gives such an elegant look. This would make a beautiful wedding or engagement card. Using Perfect Pearls on dark cardstock gives off an illuminating look and is very striking. Perfect Pearl Powders are fun to play with, inexpensive and a little goes a long way!

Shadow Stamping With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog!! ***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!    *I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -  stand alone  machines and bundles.   Today's card project is similar to yesterday's blog post using the shadow stamping technique, but today, I will be using a stencil. I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
