Hello, welcome to my blog!!
I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!
Today I have a card made with the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set from Gina K. Designs, which is now back in stock! I chose warm earth tones for my cardstock and ink choices to fit in with the fall season. I will be ink blending with a stencil, creating some tone on tone coloring to create a subtle design for my backdrop. I will also be stamping tone on tone for my card base tying everything together. All inks, cardstock and stamps are from Gina K. Let's get started!!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start, I take the second biggest die from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set and cut out of Kraft Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Using my Blender Brush, I blend Kraft Ink onto the bottom third of my panel, fading out towards the very bottom. Next, I blend Warm Cocoa Ink over the center of the panel and fade back into the previous color. For my third color, I blend Dark Chocolate Ink onto the top of my panel and fade back into the previous color
Next, I take my Art Deco Stencil and adhere it over my blended panel using Purple Tape. Using my Blender Brush, I go back through my colors and blend over the stencil. Kraft Ink on the bottom, Warm Cocoa Ink over the center and Dark Chocolate Ink over the top portion of the panel. I keep most of the ink blending towards the left side of the panel and fade out a bit towards the right side as well as the edges.
I now take the two stitched rectangle dies both from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set and arrange them towards the left side of my panel. Holding them together in place using Purple Tape, I run them through my Big Shot.
To add a little definition to the smaller rectangle, I blend Dark Chocolate Ink around the very edges. I then place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner. Choosing a greeting from the Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set, I stamp it at the bottom of the panel using Charcoal Brown Ink.
Taking a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Kraft Cardstock, I score it at 5 1/2" and fold it in half creating a top folding card base. I then add a small amount of Adhesive Dot Runner to the inside to hold it closed and also to the back to hold it into place in my MISTI. Using the Elegant Script Background Stamp, I randomly ink around the edges with Kraft Ink then stamp my card base. I also add a little Warm Cocoa Ink here and there. I continue to stamp my card base until I am satisfied with the coverage. *Adhesive dot runner can easily be rubbed away with your finger to remove when using it as a temporary adhesive.
Next, I add Terrific Tape to the back of my die cut panel with the window cut out and mount it over my card base. ***This is the point where I should have mounted the window die cut onto a Charcoal Brown Cardstock panel that was cut out using the layering die from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set before adhering onto my card base. I ended up having to go back and cut the window die cut off of the card base so I could add the brown layering piece. I then created a new card base and mounted my panel onto it. You can see this layer on the final card at the end of the post. I couldn't believe I forgot that step, live and learn! This brown panel wasn't totally necessary, however, I do like the brown in there to show separation between the panel and the card base.
I now add two layers of Foam Tape to the back of the smaller rectangle die cut and pop it up over the opening of the bigger panel.
Placing a piece of Vellum into my MISTI, I prep it with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then choose an image from the Beautiful Butterflies Stamp Set and stamp it using Versamark Ink, add White Embossing Powder then heat set with my Heat Tool. I then take the coordinating die from the Beautiful Butterflies Die Set and run them through my Big Shot.
To tone down the brightness of the white embossing and vellum, I blend Kraft Ink over the top of the embossing around the outside of the wings. I then buff off the ink from the embossing with a dry cloth. Turning the butterfly over, I blend Dark Chocolate Ink onto the center of the butterfly and fade out.
I add Liquid Glue to the body of the butterfly and mount it onto my card front at an angle. I use my Jewel Picker to add Dew Drops with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card. Ink blending over a stencil onto white cardstock can give dramatic results. Soft, subtle results can be achieved by blending tone on tone like I did for today's card. Stamping or blending on color coordinating cardstock gives beautiful monochromatic results and ties everything together!
