Hello, welcome to my blog!!
I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!
I hope everyone had a nice weekend and this week is off to a good start! Today I will be creating a simple card using silhouette stamps against an ink blended background. To step up this simple technique, I will be using contrasting ink colors to create a dramatic affect. All of my inks, cardstock and stamps that I will be using today are from Gina K. Designs. I will be using colored cardstock for my ink blending which coordinates with the ink colors I chose. My ink blending starts with the coordinating cardstock color and builds up to a deep dark blue to frame my image, creating a dramatic glowing center. This type of ink blending pairs beautifully with silhouette stamps of all kinds. The stamp set used for today's card is from Gina's latest kit which is now sold out, however, it will be available for purchase on it's own in a couple of weeks when Gina has her new release. Another great stamp set that could be used for this technique is the Natural Silhouettes set which is now in stock and available at Gina K. Let's get started!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of Sea Glass Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Using my Blender Brushes, I start my blending with Sea Glass Ink and blend around the very center of my panel. For my second color I blend Blue Lagoon Ink, blending around the previous color and fading into it. Next, I blend Tranquil Teal Ink around the previous color and fade into it.
My next color is Blue Denim Ink, I blend around the sides and corners and fade into the previous color. For my final color I blend In The Navy Ink and blend around only the very edges and corners of my panel.
At this point I decide to cut my panel down using the second biggest die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine . Most of my dark ink blending was cut off with the die cut so I go back through the colors to recreate my blend. *I should have die cut the panel before ink blending, but when I was starting my ink blending I wasn't sure where I was going with my card yet.
Taking the layering die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set I cut out of Black Onyx Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Terrific Tape, I adhere my blended panel to the black panel.
Next, I place the panel into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and line up a stamp from the Autumn Silhouettes Stamp Set. Using Amalgam Obsidian Ink I stamp the image onto my panel then let it dry for a few minutes. I then add Terrific Tape to the back of the panel and adhere it to a top folding White Cardstock card base.
Using the oval die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set, I cut out of Sea Glass Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. I then blend Sea Glass Ink, Blue Lagoon Ink, Tranquil Teal Ink and Blue Denim Ink in the same order as my panel. *I do not use "in the navy ink" for the oval.
Next, I take the scalloped oval die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Black Onyx Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Terrific Tape, I adhere my blended oval onto the scalloped oval. *When using intricate dies, I place a Metal Adapter Plate under the bottom cutting plate of my die cut machine.
I then add a small amount of Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of the oval and place it into my MISTI. Choosing a greeting from the Hearty Greetings Stamp Set, I use Amalgam Obsidian Ink and stamp the greeting onto my oval piece.
Next, I use the smallest rectangle die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Black Onyx Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Terrific Tape I adhere this rectangle onto the right side of my panel.
Finally, I add Foam Tape to the back of my oval die cut then center and mount it over the rectangle and this completes my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card and learned how fun using a dramatic ink blending can be! I love the variety of different shades in each of Gina K's ink color families. They are great for dramatic ink blending. If you only have a couple of different shades, you could try this effect by creating a light ink blend towards the center of your panel then add more ink in your blending as you get closer to the edge of the panel.
