You're My Soy-Mate

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Today I am creating a card using the I Like The Way You Roll stamp set from the brand new kit from Gina K. Designs! This is an adorable set that features images associated with sushi, punny sayings and cute little faces to add to the images. I really had fun creating with this set and see myself getting lots of use out of it. Also included in the kit are coordinating dies to cut out all of the images in this stamp set. I will be using alcohol based Copic markers to color my images and will do a little ink blending using the stencil also included in the kit. Check out the end of my blog where I will give you a tip using one of Gina's die sets to create an embellishment for the sushi! Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I place a piece of White Cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and choose my images from the I Like The Way You Roll Stamp Set, then stamp them using Amalgam Obsidian Ink. Gina's amalgam ink is great for any color medium, including Copic markers and watercolors. Just be sure the ink is completely dry so it doesn't bleed. I always heat set my stamped images when using amalgam ink to make sure it is dry.

I will be using various colors of Copic markers for my coloring and will list them by number. I start by coloring the center and cap of the soy sauce bottle using R14, flicking the color from the sides, leaving an open area in the center. Next, I use R17 again flicking from the sides, not completely covering up my previous color. I then go back with my first color, R14 repeating the flicking motion from the sides and cover up the white open area creating a slight highlighted area in the center.

Next, I color the soy sauce using E74 and again apply the flicking motion from the sides going towards the center leaving some white area. I then add E79 and flick from the sides. To complete the blend, I go back with E74 and flick from the sides, covering up the white center area.

Next, I work on my sushi roll. I start with YG95, again flicking from the sides going towards the center leaving a white area. I then flick G99 from the sides going towards the center. I go back with YG95 flicking from the sides covering the center white area. *Notice I went out of the lines a little at the bottom of the sushi roll. To fix this, I take my Colorless Blender 0 and push the color towards the line of the image. The colorless blender works great to remove ink in unwanted areas!

For the ingredients in the center of the sushi roll, I add G40 and G94 to color the green area then R12 and R14 to color the salmon colored area.

I also stamp the wasabi and chopstick images, using Amalgam Obsidian Ink. I color the wasabi using G40. I only use the one color applying more layers to the sides, keeping the center a little lighter.

For the chopsticks, I start with E70 flicking from both ends going towards the center leaving a white area. I then use E74 again flicking from both ends towards the center. I go back with E70 flicking from both ends and covering the center white area.

Using each of the coordinating dies from the I Like The Way You Roll Die Set, I cut out my images running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine.

To add faces to my images, I place the negative piece into my MISTI then pop the image into the opening. I stamp the little faces using Amalgam Obsidian Ink. For the small wasabi, I stamp the face using an acrylic block. Aren't they so cute?!!

Using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of White Cardstock. I then adhere the Fizzy Stencil (from the kit) over my panel using Purple Tape.

Taking my Blender Brush, I blend Fresh Asparagus Ink over my panel keeping it a bit darker towards the center and fading out towards the edges.

Next, I place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Soft Stone Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base.

I take the biggest rectangle die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut my stenciled panel down, running them through my Big Shot. I then use Terrific Tape and adhere my panel onto the card base.

To create the panel for my images I take the smallest stitched rectangle from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set and cut out of White Cardstock. I also take the slightly bigger rectangle die and cut out of Black Onyx Cardstock running them all through my Big Shot. Using Terrific Tape, I adhere the white panel onto the black panel.

Taking the stitched panel I add Foam Tape to the back of it then mount over the center of my card front.

For a sentiment strip, I take the small stitched banner die from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set and cut out of White Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot.

To stamp my sentiment, I place the negative piece of cardstock into my MISTI and place the die cut into the opening. I then choose a sentiment from the I Like The Way You Roll Stamp Set and stamp it using Amalgam Obsidian Ink.

Now it's time to add my images to the card. I add Foam Tape to the back of my soy sauce and mount it at an angle. I then add Foam Tape to the back of the sushi and mount is slightly over the corner of the previous image. I add Liquid Glue to the back of the chopsticks with a tiny piece of Foam Tape at the top.

To finish, I add Foam Tape to the back of my sentiment banner and mount towards the bottom then add Foam Tape to the wasabi and mount it overlapping the banner a bit. I use my Jewel Picker to add Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

***TIP*** When I used my scalloped oval die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set last week I was poking out the tiny pieces and thought to myself, these tiny pieces would be great for the sushi set! I saved the pieces and waited for my kit to arrive. I thought I would create a quick sushi roll and try them out! How adorable is this??! They look just like black sesame seeds! I will definitely be saving these little bits for future sushi cards!!

This new card kit does not disappoint! Who thought playing with sushi would be so much fun??! Come back next week for more card ideas made with Gina's new kit, I still haven't opened the third set!!

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

3D Peony Bundle Embossing Folder W/Oxide Inks

Hello, welcome to my blog!!  I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!! I'm back!!! For those of you that don't know, I took a couple of weeks off to spend some time with my brand new grand babies!! We were blessed with two more grandsons (who are cousins, their dads are brothers!) that were born only two days apart! We now have three grandsons and one granddaughter and feel so blessed!! Today I am using Distress Oxide inks to watercolor a 3D embossing folder from Simon Says Stamp. I was blown away by the detail of this embossing folder and knew right away that I wanted to watercolor something soft. Having all of these raised areas to color made watercoloring so simple and really took little effort. With all of the dimension of the 3D effect it is easy
