Zig Watercolor Flower

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!

*I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots - stand alone machines and bundles.

In today's card project, I will be using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and a water brush to add a little watercolor to my card. Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers are an easy way to do water coloring and there is an array of colors to choose from. I am in no way a watercolor artist, but using Zig markers makes it easy to lay down color and make it look good. I will be using Amalgam ink from Gina K. Designs for stamping my images as the ink is waterproof and will not smear.
Let's get started!!

To start, using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of Guava cardstock. Next, using a square from my Reverse Stitched Square Windows, I use Purple Tape to adhere the die to the top portion of my panel. I also adhere to the bottom of my panel, a die from my Stitched Scalloped Border set. I then run the panel through my Big Shot die cut machine.

Next, I cut a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock for my stamping. Using my MISTI stamp positioner, I stamp an image from my Perfectly Perfect stamp set using Amalgam ink. *Amalgam ink is great for all coloring mediums and will not smear. I create a mask using Masking Magic to lay over my stamped flower before stamping the leaves. Once I have the flower masked, I stamp three different leaf sprigs from the same set using the Amalgam ink. After all of the leaves are stamped, I carefully remove the mask from the flower.

I let the ink dry for a few minutes before starting my coloring. I will be using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers 36 ct Set to do my water coloring. To color the petals of the flower, I add Pale Pink-028, then Light Carmine-021, followed by Carmine Red-022. Using a Water Brush, Starting with the lightest color, I dab and pull the color towards the end of each petal then do the same with the medium and darkest color. I work every other petal to avoid the water leaking onto the next petal.

Next, I work on the leaves. I add Green Gray-093 then dab and pull the color towards the end of each leaf. To add shadow, I then go back and add a little Gray-090 and repeat the process. I also add both grays to the center of the flower.

When I am finished with all of the coloring, I scribble Gray-090 onto my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat and with a wet paintbrush, spatter the ink onto my colored panel.

To give a little shading to my window panel, I use my Blender Brush and blend Abandoned Coral distress ink onto the corners and edges. I adhere my water colored panel onto the backside of the window panel using Double Sided Tape.

I set my panel into my MISTI stamp positioner and stamp a sentiment from Penny Black Heartfelt stamp set using Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. I then add Water Droplets using Connect liquid glue and my card is finished.

Some people find water coloring intimidating. If you have never water colored before, I challenge you to give it a try! Start by water coloring a few single stamped images, try different coloring mediums such as Zigs, Colorbursts, or watercolors to see which work for you. Sometimes it's hard getting out of our comfort zones, we often see other crafter's beautiful work and think certain techniques are out of our abilities. If we don't try we will never know! Water coloring is something I am not comfortable with, but I do like to keep trying and working on it to get better.

Shadow Stamping With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog!! ***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!    *I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -  stand alone  machines and bundles.   Today's card project is similar to yesterday's blog post using the shadow stamping technique, but today, I will be using a stencil. I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
