Today's card project focuses on masking with Gina K. Designs Masking Magic Sheets. I will be showing you the process of two cards today using both the positive and negative parts of the mask. I really like techniques that produce two cards out of the process and this is one of those techniques! Let's get started!!
To start, using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer, I cut a 3 3/4" x 5" panel out of Heavy Base White cardstock. I also cut a 3 3/4" x 5" panel out of Masking Magic. Next, I take the largest oval from my Double Stitched Oval die set, place it onto the masking paper and hold it in place using Purple Tape. I then run the two through my Big Shot die cut machine. Using the negative (frame) part of the mask, I peel off the release paper and adhere to my white cardstock panel. I set the positive (oval) aside for my second card.
Using my Blender Brushes, I start blending the edges of the oval with Dusty Rose ink. For my next color, I use Innocent Pink and start to blend on the edge of the previous color, then toward the center of the oval and fading out leaving white in the center. To brighten up the pink a bit, I blend Bubble Gum Pink around the edges of the oval.
After letting the panel dry for a few minutes, while the mask is still attached to my panel, I lay it in my MISTI stamp positioner and arrange an image and sentiment from the Bitty Blossoms stamp set over the blended oval. I stamp my images with Amalgam ink a couple of times. I use my Ranger Craft Heat Tool to dry the ink then carefully remove the mask.
I take a strand of Bakers Twine and wrap it around the blended panel a few times and tie a bow. I add a piece of tape to the back of the panel over the twine to secure it. I also add a small amount of Connect liquid glue under the bow and gently press down to secure it into place. I then mount my blended panel onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" Black Onyx panel then mount onto a Dusty Rose card base and this finishes off my first card.
For my second card, I start with a 3 3/4" x 5" Ivory cardstock panel. I take the positive (oval) portion of the masking that I had previously cut, remove the release paper and place it onto my ivory panel. Next, I place the panel into my MISTI and prep the panel with Anti Static powder. Using my Petite Flourish background stamp, I stamp my panel with Embossing ink. I add Clear embossing powder and heat set. I then remove the mask.
I now do some ink blending. I start with Lovely Lavender and blend over all of the embossing. Next, I use Plum Punch and blend onto the corners and edges of the panel. For added depth, I blend Edible Eggplant to the very edges and corners. I finish by buffing the embossed areas with a clean, dry cloth to remove any ink sitting on top of the embossing. I now mount my blended panel onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" Black Onyx panel using Terrific Tape, then mount onto a Plum Punch top folding card base.
Taking the same Double Stitched Oval die I used with the masking, I cut out of Ivory cardstock using my Big Shot. I lay this oval into my MISTI and stamp the image from Inspiring Poppies stamp set using Edible Eggplant ink. I stamp a sentiment from the same stamp set using Amalgam ink. To finish this card, I mount the stamped oval onto the card front using Foam Tape and this completes my second card.
This completes today's card project showing two cards made with easy masking. Any die can be used to create masks for ink blending, the possibilities are endless. With all of the different shapes of dies out there, you can really get creative!
