Hello, welcome to my blog!!
***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!
*I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -stand alone machines and bundles.
!!! Just listed... 20% - 50% off all card making supplies PLUS, 20% or more off all Tim Holtz products at Scrapbook.com There are also so many other great sales going on!!!
Today's card project involves ink blending and using dies to create silhouettes that look stunning against the ink blending. I will be using Distress Oxide inks to do my ink blending. If you've never used Oxide inks, they are a game changer when it comes to ink blending! Even colors you wouldn't think of using together blend beautifully! If you struggle with ink blending, I recommend trying the Oxide inks, they may be just what you need to get a perfect blend. Let's get started!!
To start, I use my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer to cut a 4" x 5 1/4" panel out of Neenah white cardstock. Using my Blender Brushes, I start by blending Peeled Paint onto the bottom portion of my panel, coming up the side just a bit. Next, I add Bundled Sage to darken my green a little. I now add a little Vintage Photo to the very bottom.
Next, I use Fossilized Amber to create the sun. My next color I use is Spiced Marmalade, I blend lightly around the sun and fade out a bit. I now blend Ripe Persimmon around the previous color. My final color is Candied Apple, I blend this around the previous color and the rest of the top. Once I have all colors blended onto my panel, I go back with each color to complete my blending and to darken the colors. To finish the panel, I take a small paintbrush and lightly spatter with clean water.
*I apologize for the lighting in my process pictures. The final picture does portray the true colors.
Next, I use Tim Holtz Alterations Wildflower dies to cut out of black cardstock and run them through my Big Shot die cut machine. Using Liquid Glue, I glue them onto my panel with the ends hanging off the edges. After the glue sets, I use my paper trimmer to trim off all pieces that overhang.
I do a little ink blending with Ripe Persimmon and Candied Apple onto a scrap piece of white cardstock to stamp my sentiment onto. After the ink dries, I choose a sentiment from You Make A Difference stamp set. Using my MISTI stamp positioner, I stamp my sentiment with Versafine Clair Nocturn ink. Next, I use Sentiment Banners to cut out my sentiment. I hold down with Purple Tape and run through my Big Shot.
I attach the panel onto a black card base and use Foam Tape to adhere my sentiment onto the front of my card. To finish off the card, I use liquid glue to add Water Droplets, and my card is done.
This card was fun to see come to life. Adding the black die cuts really made the ink blending more vibrant. I hope you learned a few tips along the way and try using your dies for silhouettes against bright, inked backgrounds. Remember to always start out with a light hand when doing ink blending, you can always add more ink. Also, cardstock is important. I find a good quality cardstock that is 110 lb or heavier works well and helps the ink to blend easier. As with everything, practice is the key. You may not get the look you want the first few times of trying, but don't give up, keep going!
If this is the first time visiting my blog, welcome and I hope you return. If you are a returning visitor, thank you so much for your support!
