*I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -stand alone machines and bundles.

Today's card project is a simple ink blending technique done on colored cardstock. Blending on a light colored cardstock, gives a soft, subtle look. Blending on colored cardstock takes a little time to build up the ink. Always start with a light hand and build up the layers. The ink will look a little splotchy at first, but will dry back to a beautiful blend. I will show you how to mask, blend and create a frame for the blended panel. Let's get started!!

To start, I cut a 3 3/4" x 5" panel of Soft Stone cardstock, I also cut a piece of Masking Magic the same size. Taking the Masking Magic panel, I use a die from Hero Arts Infinity Rectangles and cut out the center of my mask by running it through my Big Shot die cutting machine. Next, I peel off the release paper from the mask and carefully adhere it to my Soft Stone panel.

I now start my ink blending. Using my Blender Brushes, I start blending using Stormy Sky ink and cover the top portion of the panel. The next color I use is Ocean Mist. I blend this color on the center of the panel, also blending into the previous color. My final color is Turquoise Sea. I blend the bottom portion of the panel, also blending into the previous color. I go back with each color to add more ink and blend into each other until I'm happy with the contrast. I now remove the mask.

Taking my MISTI stamp positioner, I choose an image from With Love And Prayers and stamp onto my panel using Amalgam Jet Black ink. Next, I stamp my sentiment from the same set. I then attach my panel onto a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" Slate panel using Terrific Tape.

Next, I create a frame for the panel. Using the same size rectangle die that I used for my mask from the Infinity Rectangle set and the next size up, I lay them cut side down and center the two together. I use Purple Tape to hold them together then place the dies on Slate cardstock and run them through my Big Shot. Using Connect liquid glue, I attach the frame over the blended area of my card. To finish off the card, I add some Water Droplets using liquid glue and this completes my card.

Ink blending on a light colored cardstock gives a soft, contrasted look to your card. It really pulls the colors together and gives a finished look. I hope you enjoyed today's card and give it a try. If you are newer to ink blending and find it difficult to achieve a good blend, remember, it takes practice. Another tip is to always start your ink blending with a light hand. The best looking blends are achieved by building up the ink layers. What starts out looking splotchy will fill in and smooth out when more ink layers are added. There are different tools for ink blending such as sponge daubers, foam blending tools and blender brushes. Each gives a slightly different look, some apply ink heavier and some apply ink in lesser amounts giving a softer look.

Come back on Monday for another fun card project!

Shadow Stamping With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog!! ***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!    *I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -  stand alone  machines and bundles.   Today's card project is similar to yesterday's blog post using the shadow stamping technique, but today, I will be using a stencil. I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
