Watercolored Oxide Background

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Today I have a clean and simple card for you. I will be doing some ink blending using Distress Oxide Inks onto water colored cardstock then spray with water to get the color moving, fading out to white. I will then use a 3D embossing folder to complete my background. To frame out my card I will use a stitched die cut that cuts out a rectangle leaving stitching on the cut piece as well as the piece it was cut from. I will finish off my card with a greeting die cut and stamped sentiment. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of watercolor cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Using my Blender Brushes, I blend Weathered Wood Distress Oxide Ink onto the top left corner of my panel, fading out towards the center a bit. Next, I blend Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink, blending back into the previous color and fading out a bit. For my final color, I blend Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Ink, blending back into my previous color and fading out to white.

After my blending is complete, I take my Distress Sprayer filled with clean water and spray the entire panel. I then take my Air Blower to move my color around and blend it a little. To speed up the drying, I use my Craft Tool to dry the panel. *The air blower tool isn't necessary, but I do like the way it moves the color around and blends the inks. This also keeps the color from pooling up. After drying the panel was warped a bit, but it will straighten out after running it through the embossing folder.

Taking my 3D Botanical Embossing Folder, I place the blended panel into it and run it through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. *Be sure to check the sandwich order for your machine when using 3D folders.

I now create a side folding card base for my panel by placing a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of white cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score at 4 1/4". Using Double Sided Tape, I adhere my panel onto the card base.

To create a frame for my panel, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" out of the same watercolor cardstock using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then take the second biggest die from the Outside In Stitched Rectangle Die Set and center it over the panel. Holding the die in place using Purple Tape, I run them through my Big Shot. I remove the center (which also has stitched edges) and save it for a future project. I then set the frame aside while I work on my sentiment. *I chose to use the watercolor cardstock to create my frame, sentiment strip and greeting. Regular white cardstock could also be used, I just liked the look of the texture that the watercolor cardstock gives.

For my sentiment, I place a scrap piece of watercolor cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner. Choosing a sentiment from the Million Thanks Stamp Set, I stamp using Versfine Clair Nocturn Ink. I then trim my sentiment down to a thin strip.

Using Liquid Glue, I glue my sentiment strip to the back of the frame I created, towards the bottom. Next, I  add Double Sided Tape to the back of the frame and mount onto my card front.

For my greeting, I take my Fancy Thanks Die and cut out of watercolor cardstock three times, running them through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue, I stack and glue the die cuts together. I then add small drops of Liquid Glue to the back of the die cut and mount onto my card front, just above my sentiment. *I have added a close up picture to show the cracking (of the cardstock) made by the embossing folder. I actually really like this look, I think it adds to the overall look!

I use my Jewel Picker to add Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I like the way this card came together and the soft, clean look of this design. Looking at the photo, it looks as though it was taken in black and white! This is a full color photo, the colors I chose all have gray tones to them so I suppose that is why? LOL. Adding extra touches to simple cards can really add to the look. I forget how elegant and clean a simple card can be.

Trapped Ink Mandala Stencil

Hello, welcome to my blog!! Today's card project uses the Trapped Ink technique, where you lay down your ink and embossing using clear embossing ink. You then add black ink over the entire image and the ink trapped under the clear embossing shines through. Today, I will be using a stencil that has a lot of detail. Adding black ink over colored ink gives a bright, vivid result. I will be using Gina K. Designs inks, cardstock and products. Let's get started!! I start with a 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" White cardstock square panel. Using Purple Tape , I center and adhere to the back of my Square Mandala Stencil . I flip the stencil over to do some ink blending. Using my Blender Brushes , I start my blending with Pink Passion ink blending at the top left corner, then fading out a little. I then use Wild Dandelion  ink, blending onto the panel and fading out, I also blend back into the previous pink ink to create my orange. The next color I use, is Blue Raspberry  ink. I la...
