Hello, welcome to my blog!!
I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!
Today I've created a simple card using Oxide Inks blended on colored cardstock over a stencil. While this is a simple card, I am stepping it up by creating a vibrant ombre ink blend. I love to ink blend and find colors that work well together. The stencil I chose today works great with this ombre effect as it looks like it is bursting from the center. I also love to blend on colored cardstock. From a light gray shade to black cardstock and every color in between, colored ink will show up by first laying down a layer of white pigment ink. Using Oxide Inks also helps the color to show up on dark cardstock as they have pigment properties in them. To showcase the ink blend, I will use a simple die cut greeting. Let's get started!!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of Paper Bag Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then spray my Leaf Burst Stencil with Pixie Spray and let it dry for a few minutes. I then place the stencil over my panel and press down to adhere. I also use Purple Tape to hold the stencil to my work surface. Using my Blender Brushes, I start by blending an even coat of White Pigment Ink over the stencil onto the cardstock panel. *Pixie Spray is a low tack spray adhesive for stencils. It holds the stencil in place while blending. **I have a blender brush that is only used for my white pigment ink.
I use a paper towel to wipe off and clean my stencil each time I change colors, including the pigment ink. Next, I blend Spun Sugar Distress Oxide Ink to the center area of the stencil, fading out towards the outside a bit.
I now blend Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink around the previous color, blending back into it a bit and fading out towards the outside.
For my third color, I blend Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink around the previous color, blending back into it a bit.
To deepen the ends of the outer leafs, I blend Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink to just the tips. I then go back over with Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink to soften the blend.
After completing my blend, I decided to add the purple and black tips to the third row of leaves. To do this I take Purple Tape and tape off the two surrounding leaves. I first take Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink and blend at the tip. I then blend Black Soot Distress Oxide Ink to the very tip. I repeat this for each of the leaves going around.
I remove the stencil then trim 1/8" off the two sides of my panel using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer.
Next, I place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Plum Punch Cardstock into my Scor Buddy, scoring at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. Using Double Sided Tape, I center and adhere my panel onto the card base leaving 1/8" on each side.
Taking my Fancy Thanks Die, I cut out of Edible Eggplant Cardstock three times, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Using Liquid Glue I stack and glue the die cuts together.
Placing a scrap piece of Paper Bag Cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner I stamp a sentiment from the Million Thanks Stamp Set using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink. I trim the sentiment to a thin strip using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer then glue three thin strips of cardstock to the back.
Using Liquid Glue, I mount the strip onto my card front. I also add Liquid Glue to the back of my greeting and mount just above the sentiment strip tucking the "k" under the strip. I use my Jewel Picker to add Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.
Ink blending can be as simple or as detailed as you want to make it. With all of the fun stencils available on the market today you can really get fancy with your ink blending. Whether using stencils or stamps adding colored ink to dark cardstock gives an interesting and unique look!
