Creating Backgrounds - Masculine

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Sorry for the delay in my card making! A couple of things came up where I wasn't able to make time for my card making. With colder weather creeping in, there are a couple of things we needed to get done to the house. Anyhow, I am back!!

Today, I wanted to make a masculine birthday card by creating different backgrounds. Sometimes I forget how simple it is to create my own backgrounds. I will be using both regular Distress and Distress Oxide inks for my backgrounds, using the direct ink to paper technique as well as some heat embossing. ***FYI the background stamp I use for this card is on clearance right now at a GREAT price!! Masculine cards can be a bit of a struggle at times, but I will show you how easily today's card comes together. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel out of Neenah White Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then take my Stormy Sky Distress Ink Pad and drag it across the panel, starting at the top then work my way down until the panel is inked.

Next, I take my Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink Pad and drag it across the panel the same way, this time applying the ink where the previous ink applications meet, I don't want to completely cover up the previous ink color. I like to use regular distress inks along with oxide inks with this technique. With only one of the colors being an oxide ink I feel, gives the panel more of a color varied look.

I let my panel dry for a few minutes then take a die from the Stitched Banner 2 Large Die Set and tape it onto my panel using Purple Tape. I then run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I set this panel aside while I work on my next layer.

Taking another 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" panel of Neenah White Cardstock, I drag Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink down the panel, this time I am applying the ink vertically. For the second color I use Weathered Wood Distress Oxide Ink swiping the pad down the panel until I am satisfied with the coverage.

Allowing my panel to dry for a few minutes, I take the next size smaller die from the Stitched Banner 2 Large Die Set and cut out of my panel, running them through my Big Shot

Next, I add a small amount of Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of the smaller banner die cut and place it into center of my MISTI Stamp Positioner. I then prep the die cut using my Anti Static Powder Bag. Next, I ink up the Fishing Pattern Bold Prints Stamp with Versamark Ink and stamp it onto the banner. I add White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

Taking a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Blue Denim Cardstock I place it into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. I then place the card base into my MISTI and stamp it with the same Fishing Pattern Bold Prints Stamp using Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink

To add a little shading, I place a piece of scrap copy paper into my card base then blend Black Soot Distress Ink around all four edges and corners using my Blender Brush, not too much but enough to add some depth the the edges.

Next, I layer the smaller banner die cut onto the bigger banner die cut and adhere them together using Double Sided Tape. I then use my Guillotine Paper Trimmer and trim off the top of the banners, including the stitching. Next, I add Double Sided Adhesive Foam to the back of the banners then mount onto my card front.

To create a blended panel for my greeting, I take Faded Jeans Distress Ink and drag the ink pad across a panel of Neenah White Cardstock. I then drag Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink over the previous color.

I let the panel dry for a few minutes then tape down the two script dies from the Happy Birthday Sentiment Suite Die Set using Purple Tape. I then run them through my Big Shot. I also use these same dies to cut out of Blue Denim Cardstock. Using Liquid Glue, I adhere the two die cuts together offsetting a bit to create a shadow for my greeting.

I end up cutting three more times out of the Blue Denim Cardstock. I stack and glue the die cuts together using Liquid Glue then glue them to the back of the shadow die cut for added dimension. Starting with the "birthday die cut" I use Liquid Glue and adhere it over the banners on my card front. I then adhere the "happy die cut" just above. I use my Jewel Picker to add some Water Droplets with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card. Creating your own backgrounds is a great way to coordinate colors. Whether creating stamped backgrounds or just using ink, you can create backgrounds that look like they came from a paper pack!

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
