Lovely Lotus Watercolor

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Today I have a watercolored card using the Lovely Lotus stamp set from Gina K. Designs. This set was sold out for quite some time but is now back in stock!! This is a beautiful stamp set that has such encouraging sentiments combining print and scripted fonts within each sentiment. If you'd like to see more ideas using this stamp set, I have several posts on my blog... just type "lovely lotus" into the search bar and it will pull all of them up. I will be using my ink cubes for today's watercoloring. All of the stamps, ink and cardstock I use are from Gina K, with the exception of the watercolor cardstock. The watercolor cardstock I use is Canson XL, which I purchase from Walmart for under $6.00. This is a great quality cardstock that is very inexpensive. If you haven't tried watercoloring but would like to, this is a great cardstock to start with! I will include a picture of this cardstock below. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I use my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer to cut a piece of watercolor cardstock and place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner then prep it with my Anti Static Powder Bag. Choosing the large images from the Lovely Lotus Stamp Set, I stamp them onto the panel using Versamark Ink. I then add Silver Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. *Because this cardstock is textured, I end up stamping my images 3 times to get a crisp image.

Next, I place the panel back into my MISTI and again prep with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then line up the detail image from the Lovely Lotus Stamp Set and stamp using Versamark Ink, add Silver Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

Using the white area of my Glass Mat I press my ink cubes onto the glass and use this as my palette for my watercoloring. Taking a Water Brush filled with clean water, I pick up Lemon Drop Ink and add it to the base of my first petal. I then blend out and fade as I only want this color at the base of the petal. *I keep a paper towel nearby to dab off the color from my brush or remove water if the brush becomes too wet when needed.

Next, I pick up Innocent Pink Ink with my Water Brush and add it to the tip of the same petal then blend out and fade towards the previous color, this is how I will color all of my two toned petals.

Going back to my yellow, I add Lemon Drop Ink to the base of the petals that show their inside base parts, (I hope that makes sense!) blending out and fading. I then go back to my pink and pick up Innocent Pink Ink and add it to the tips of all the petals, blending out.

For my next layer of color, I pick up Bubble Gum Pink Ink with my Water Brush and add it to the very tips of each petal. I then blend the color out being careful not to completely cover up the previous shade.

Next, I pick up Wild Dandelion Ink with my Water Brush and add to the very base of the petals that have yellow on them. I then blend out the ink being careful to not completely cover up the previous color.

For my greens, I again press my ink cubes onto the Glass Mat. I use my Water Brush and pick up Jelly Bean Green Ink and add it to the image where it is split. I then blend out the ink to cover the image. Next, I add Grass Green Ink to my image towards the split and blend out being careful not to completely cover up the previous color. I add one more layer of the Grass Green Ink and blend out.

Using the coordinating dies from the Lovely Lotus Die Set, I line up and adhere them using Purple Tape then run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine and set them aside. *These dies are very easy to line up and cut a beautiful even border around the images!

Taking the biggest stitched die from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set, I cut out of the same watercolor cardstock. I also take the layering die from the same die set and cut out of Jelly Bean Green Cardstock, running them both through my Big Shot.

Taking the Harvest Flourish Stencil, I adhere it over my stitched panel using Purple Tape. Using my Blender Brush, I blend Ocean Mist Ink over the center of the stencil and fade out towards the edges of my panel.

Next, I place the panel into my MISTI and stamp a sentiment from the Lovely Lotus Stamp Set using Amalgam Obsidian Ink towards the bottom of the panel.

Using Terrific Tape, I adhere the stitched panel onto the green panel. I then place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Ocean Mist Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. I then add Foam Tape to the back of my panel and mount it onto the card base.

To adhere the images I add Foam Tape to the back of the lily pad and mount it above the sentiment. I then add two layers of Foam Tape to the back of the lotus and mount it over the top of the lily pad. *Adding two layers of foam tape to the lotus allows me to mount it over the lily pad giving it a dimensional look.

Using my Jewel Picker I add Dew Drops with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card. I love watercoloring new images and can't believe it took me this long to color the lotus! This is a great stamp set to color with all kinds of mediums and also looks great embossed over a blended background. I really love the sentiments included in this set, they are so encouraging and uplifting to those who are struggling by letting them know to not give up and that beautiful things come from the struggles. Not to mention the fonts in this set are gorgeous!!

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
