Exotic Tulips Watercolored W/Oxide Inks

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!

Today I have simple watercolored card using the Exotic Tulips stamp set from Altenew. This is a layering stamp set, however, I will be using only the outline images for today's card. For my watercoloring I will be using Distress Oxide Inks. My watercoloring method is very simple and uses only two colors of ink, a light color to create a base and a dark color to add shading and depth. Even though I use only two colors I am able to achieve the look of more colors by adding layers. I am also able to create the look of more shades by diluting the colors with more water or using the colors full strength. To create a subtle background for my image I will use a background stamp called You Are. The words of this stamp pairs perfectly with the sentiment I chose "You are so thoughtful". I love mixing and matching stamps and sentiments from different companies to create my cards. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start I place a piece of Watercolor Cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Tool. I then stamp the outline images from the Exotic Tulips Stamp Set using Versamark Ink. I add Gold Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

Next, I press Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Ink and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink onto the white area of my Glass Mat, I will use this as my Palette. Using a Water Brush filled with clean water, I start by wetting my first petal. I then pick up Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Ink with my Water Brush and apply it to the base of the petal, pulling and blending the ink toward the end of the petal but not all the way to the end as I want to leave some white area at the tips. I repeat this process for each petal. *I have a paper towel that I use to remove color from my brush or to remove excess water if needed.

For my second color I add Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink to the very base of the first petal using my Water Brush then blend out towards the end of the petal again leaving some white area at the tips. I repeat this process for each of the petals. I then go back with another layer of Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink and repeat the process.

To bring in a little more color variation and texture I start at the bottom of the petals and add some flicks of Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Ink. I then go back with Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink, adding to the very base of each petal and pulling up a bit in a flicking motion.

For the flower bud I use my Water Brush and lay down a light wash of Milled Lavender Distress Oxide Ink, again leaving the edges white. I then add a layer of Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink and blend it out. Finally, I add another layer of Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink and repeat the flicking process. My watercoloring is now complete.

I end up stamping and embossing another stem. Using my Micro Tip Scissors I fussy cut all of the images.

Next, I place the You Are Background Stamp onto the door of my MISTI. I then cut out a 4" x 5" panel out of Watercolor Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I add some Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of the panel then place it (adhesive side up so it will adhere to the base) over the background stamp being sure to line it up with the text. I then close the base of my MISTI onto the stamp and turn the MISTI back over, pressing down on the door a bit to make sure the cardstock is adhered to the base. Now when I open the door of my MISTI the panel is perfectly lined up. I then ink up the stamp with Fog Gray Ink and stamp onto the panel.

I now place the panel back into my MISTI and layout my images to determine my stamp placement. I take a sentiment from the Pen Sketched Stamp Set and place it onto my panel. Once I have my sentiment lined up I remove my images and stamp the sentiment using Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink.

Next, I place a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Plum Punch Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 5 1/2" creating a top folding card base. Using Liquid Glue I attach my first stem onto my stamped panel. I then add Foam Tape to the biggest flower and adhere it over the stem.

Next, I add Foam Tape to the flower bud and adhere it just below my first flower. I then use Liquid Glue and adhere my second stem under the flower bud onto my panel. I add Liquid Glue to the bottom of each leaf and add a piece of small Foam Tape to the top parts of the leaves and adhere them over the stems. I cut off the overhang  at the bottom of my panel then use Double Sided Tape to the back of my panel and mount it onto my card base.

Using my Jewel Picker I add Rain Drops with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed todays card. I love how this card came together with its simplicity. I also love the sentiment stamped in black over the typed background with the words tying together. If you've never tried watercoloring I encourage you to give it a try. Watercoloring isn't about getting the exact shading, it's just adding color to an image and laying down some color. Watercoloring can be as simple or as detailed as you want to make it. Adding darker color to the base of the petals and shadow areas really makes an image come to life!

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
