Floral Doodles W/Alcohol Inks

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!

Today I have made a card that is all about die cutting! All of the elements on my card are die cuts with no stamping. I do a little ink blending to create a soft subtle backdrop and create an alcohol inked background to cut my detailed images from. I myself love die cutting and there are so many beautiful dies out there! From background dies, images and letters to word dies... I LOVE THEM ALL!! There are also lots of fun interactive dies available from many companies. Although I love paper piecing and inlay, I will be placing my detail dies over die cut vellum pieces for a soft transparent look. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I create an alcohol inked background. I start with a piece of Yupo Paper and add some Blending Solution to it. I then add a few drops of Laguna Alcohol Ink, followed by Purple Twilight Alcohol Ink and Gilded Alloy Alcohol Ink. I then add a drop of Blending Solution onto each drop of the alloy. Using my Air Blower I move the ink around the panel blending the colors and alloy together until I am satisfied with the look. I then place the panel aside to dry while I work on my card.

Using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece out of White Cardstock. I then take my Blending Brush and blend Sea Glass Ink around the center of the panel, fading out towards the edges. Next, I take my Layering Geo Cover B Die and cut out of White Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. Using my Craft Pick I poke out and remove all of the pieces. *When die cutting with intricate dies I place a Metal Adapter Plate under the bottom cutting plate of my die cut machine.

Using Liquid Glue, I turn the die cut over and add small drops of glue to each area where the lines intersect as well as all four edges. So that the glue doesn't ooze out when I adhere my die cut, I take my finger and blot on top of the glue, this removes excess glue but leaves enough glue on the die cut. (This was a wonderful tip from Jennifer McGuire!!) I then flip the die cut over and adhere it over my blended panel. I then place a large acrylic block onto top of it until the glue sets. For some dimension I cut a smaller circle out of Fun Foam using my Infinity Circles Die Set, running them through my Big Shot. I use Liquid Glue to adhere the foam to the back of the die cut circle then glue it over the circle opening of the background die. I then place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of White Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. Using Double Sided Tape I adhere my panel onto the card base.

Now that my alcohol inked panel is completely dry I take four of the outline dies from the Floral Doodles Die Set and cut out of my panel, running them through my Big Shot then remove the pieces with my Craft Pick. *In the end I die cut a total of five leaves. I then take the coordinating solid dies for each image and cut out of Vellum, running them through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I add small drops to the back of the outline die cuts, again blotting the glue with my finger and adhere them to the Vellum pieces.

Next, I take a greeting from the Phrase Builder - Sending Die Set and cut out of Sea Glass Cardstock twice then take the coordinating shadow die and cut out of White Cardstock, running them all through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I stack and glue the two die cuts together then glue onto the shadow die cut.

I now begin to assemble my card. I add Liquid Glue to the back of my biggest flower, but only to the area that will be touching the circle die cut where it will be adhered to. Because my die cut is Vellum and I don't want the glue showing through, I am careful to add small amounts of glue to the back of the thicker areas of the outline image then dab with my finger to remove excess glue. I then press the image onto the circle die cut to adhere. I repeat this process and add the second flower die cut. I also adhere a couple of the leaves by gluing the base of the leaves just under the circle die.

Next, I add my greeting. I add Liquid Glue to the back of the 'H' and 'U' as these two letters will be touching the circle die, then add two layers of Foam Tape pieces to the back of the 'G' and 'S' then mount onto my card front. *The reason I add two layers of foam to the last two letters of my die cut is to make up the dimension so that my greeting lies flat when coming off of the circle die cut. I finish by adding Liquid Glue to the base of my remaining leaves I then tuck and adhere them into place.

Using my Jewel Picker I scatter and add some Pearl Gems with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card created using die cuts only. I love the way this card came together and the soft transparent look that vellum gives. Using the solid image dies also looks great cut out of the alcohol inked background with the outline dies cut out of white cardstock and layered together. Both images create a great look but I feel that I don't use vellum enough and wanted to try something different, I was thrilled with the results!

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
