Hello, welcome to my blog!!
I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! We enjoyed time spent with family and will be welcoming two little grandsons at the end of March, beginning of April!! We are blessed with a grandson and granddaughter and can't wait for two more grandsons to join our family, they are such a blessing!!
I enjoyed taking two weeks off, but let me just say... it is tough getting back into the groove of things!!! I have decided to switch things up a bit, going forward, I will be posting cards on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will allow me more time to create and still have time for the normal day to day things. My hope is to one day get into creating videos as well... it will be a huge learning curve for me!
To ease back into my creativity, I chose to play with one of my favorite techniques, ink blending! Today's card features heat embossing using a stencil. I will then do some ink blending to make my embossing pop. I love doing this technique with solid stamped images, however, I wanted to show how it can also be done using a stencil with a solid image. I will be using regular distress inks for my ink blending then finish off the card with a simple die cut greeting so the background can show through. Let's get started!!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start, I use the second biggest die from the Master Layouts 1 Die set and cut out of Passionate Pink Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then use Purple Tape to adhere the Leaf Burst Stencil to my panel.
Using the white portion of my Glass Mat, I add a few drops of Versamark Refill Ink then pick it up using my Mini Ink Blending Tool. I then gently tap and twist the Blending Tool over the openings of the stencil. After the entire image is well inked I carefully remove the stencil. *There is a small portion of the panel that is exposed at the bottom that you could tape off to avoid getting any ink on it.
Next, I add Gold Embossing Powder over my panel then heat set with my Heat Tool.
Now it's time to do some ink blending. Using my Blender Brush I blend Picked Raspberry Distress Ink around all sides and corners fading in towards the design. I then take Seedless Preserves Distress Ink and blend around the edges and corners of the panel, again fading out. I also use this color to blend out at the center of all four sides just a bit. To finish, I blend Black Soot Distress Ink to the very edges of my panel. *Using the black ink around the very edges adds depth to the blend.
I now take the biggest die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of Black Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Double Sided Tape I adhere the two panels together. I then cut a 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Double Sided Adhesive Foam using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer and adhere it to the back of the panel then mount it onto a Passionate Pink Cardstock card base. *Of course I forgot to get a picture of this step, however you will see the panel mounted onto the card base in the next couple of steps.
Next, I take a die from the Phrase Builder - Sending Die Set and cut out of Passionate Pink Cardstock two times then take the coordinating shadow die and cut out of Black Cardstock, running them both through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I stack and glue the word die cuts together then glue them onto the shadow die cut. *When using intricate dies I place a Metal Adaptor Plate under the bottom cutting plate of my die cut machine.
I now add Foam Circles to the back of the die cut greeting and mount it onto my card front just over the center of the embossed design.
For a sentiment I place a small piece of Black Cardstock into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Tool. I choose a sentiment from the Statement Flowers Stamp Set and stamp it with Versamark Ink. I then add White Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.
This next step is a tip I picked up from one of Jennifer McGuire's recent videos that I am THRILLED about, finally a foolproof way to cut evenly spaced sentiment strips!!! I take a panel of cardstock and with the cutting arm of my Guillotine Paper Trimmer all the way down I slide the cardstock panel under the plastic guard and push it all the way over to the cutting arm. Holding the cardstock panel down, I slide my sentiment under it and line it up against the cardstock. Wherever the edge of my cardstock panel is, is where the blade will cut so I use that edge to line up my sentiment. I LOVE this idea, thank you JM!!!
I then trim the ends down on my sentiment strip and add Liquid Glue then mount it on top of my greeting.
To finish off my card I use my Jewel Picker to add some Dazzling Diamond Rhinestones with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card that used embossing with stencils. A lot of us use stencils for making beautiful blended backgrounds, if you haven't already done so I hope you will give the embossing technique a try for something different. Also, remember the next time you need to cut a thin sentiment strip to give JM's tip a try... it has helped me out so much!
I pray 2021 brings lots of blessings and good health to all of you!
