Hello, welcome to my blog!!
I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!
Today I am playing with the brand new layering stencils from Gina K. Designs, called A Little Love Layering Stencils. These stencils are part of a bundle, this bundle also includes stamps and dies that all coordinate together. To be honest, I purchased this bundle all because of the layered "love" die! I absolutely love this die, the font is so beautiful but the best part is the "swoosh"! I love to hang it off the edge of the panel as I did on today's card. This bundle is a great value that is packed with three 6" x 6" layering stencils, stamps that add extra detail to stenciled flowers, small hearts and so many sentiments that all go with the "love" die. There is also a "love" stamp with the same font but is smaller than the die. As if all of this wasn't enough, Gina has included dies that coordinate with images of the stencil so they can also be cut out! I cannot say enough good things about this bundle, I thought I would really only want the die but I ended up loving everything!! These images look beautiful stamped on white or ivory cardstock, but today I wanted to create deep rich colors on a dark background so I went with Edible Eggplant as my base. This post has A LOT of pictures but I wanted to capture each step with these stencils. All of the inks, cardstock and stamps I use today are from Gina K. Designs. Let's get started!!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start I cut a 6" x 6" panel out of Edible Eggplant Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I place the cardstock panel into the lower right corner of my MISTI Stamp Positioner then place the first stencil from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle over the panel, making sure it is also pushed into the corner. This is the method I will be using to line up each stencil with my panel. By using the corner as a guide, I can be sure everything is properly lined up. If you do not have a stamp positioner to use this method, there are four alignment dots on each corner of the stencils, just be sure to ink these up on the first stencil, you will then line up these dots with the other two stencils for perfect alignment. *There is etched print located at the bottom left side of each stencil with the name of the design. The stencils are also numbered as to the recommended order the ink blending should be done. Of course you can switch things up and create your own blending order!
Using my Blending Brush (I have one brush that I dedicate for white pigment ink only) I blend White Pigment Ink over all of the open areas of the stencil. Be sure to blend enough ink to give a good solid white base.
I now place the second stencil from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle over my panel, making sure it is pushed into the corner of my MISTI. I again blend White Pigment Ink over all of the open areas of the stencil. I remove the stencil and wash all of the pigment ink off of both stencils. Using my Craft Tool I dry all of the pigment inked images as I don't want the wet ink to get on my other brushes.
After the pigment ink is completely dry, I place my panel back into my MISTI and place the first stencil from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle over the panel. Using my Blending Brush I blend Plum Punch Ink over the three large flowers. *I use Purple Tape to place over any open areas that are close where I don't want to get ink. Using Edible Eggplant Ink I blend over the very centers only of each large flower to create a little depth.
Next, I place the second stencil from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle over my panel and use a Blending Brush to blend Jelly Bean Green Ink over all of the open areas to create the leaves and vines.
It's at this point that I realize I didn't create a white base to the centers of my flowers. I place the third stencil over my panel and blend White Pigment Ink to the centers of each flower, then dry the pigment ink. To create some detail, I place the third stencil back over my panel and blend White Pigment Ink over all of the openings for the leaves and vines. *Using a darker or even the same color green ink could have also been used for the details of the leaves, but I wanted some lighter highlights in my blend.
To add some color to the smaller flowers I place the first stencil back over my panel. Using my Blending Brush I blend Sweet Mango Ink over all of the small flowers. *To save some time, the coloring of these flowers could have been done when I blended the large flowers but at the time I wasn't sure what color I was going to use.
To add color to the centers of each flower I place the third stencil back over my panel and blend Honey Mustard Ink to the centers of the large flowers and blend Dark Chocolate Ink to the centers of the small flowers and this completes my blending.
Taking the biggest stitched die from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set I choose an area and hold down the die using Purple Tape then run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then take the coordinating layering die from the Master Layouts 2 Die Set and cut out of Lovely Lavender Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Terrific Tape I adhere the two panels together.
Going back to the remaining blended panel, I take the flower die from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle and line it up over the big flower, holding it in place using Purple Tape. I then run them through my Big Shot. Taking one of the detail stamps from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle, I stamp around the centers of the large flowers using Edible Eggplant Ink. I also take another detail stamp and stamp the very centers of the large flowers with Dark Chocolate Ink.
I now place a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Plum Punch Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 5 1/2" creating a top folding card base. Using Foam Tape I mount my panel onto the card base. I also add Foam Tape to the die cut flower and adhere it onto my card front.
Taking the love die from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle ***This "Love die" is also available for purchase on it's own - Love And Shadow Die) I cut out of Lovely Lavender Cardstock and take the coordinating shadow die from the same set and cut out of Edible Eggplant Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I adhere the two together.
I want to mount my die cut greeting partially over the foam mounted flower as well as the card front. To make up the difference in dimension I take the shadow die and cut out of three pieces of scrap cardstock. I then stack and glue them together and cut the die cut down as I only need the right portion. Using Liquid Glue I adhere these stacked dies to the back of my greeting being sure everything is lined up. I will now have a level die cut, I add Liquid Glue to the back and mount it onto my card front.
For a sentiment I place a scrap piece of Edible Eggplant Cardstock into my MISTI and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then choose a sentiment from the A Little Love Layering Stencil Bundle and stamp it with Versamark Ink, add White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. Using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer I trim my sentiment to a small strip and cut the ends down, I add Liquid Glue and adhere it over my die cut greeting. I decided to go back to the remaining blended panel and die cut the leaf cluster. I add Liquid Glue and tuck it under the foam mounted flower letting it hang off the edge of the panel a bit and this completes my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card, these layered stencils are so fun to create with!! I've seen some of the different layered stencils coming out, but this was the first time I've had a chance to play with them. I love that Gina created stencils, stamps and dies that coordinate and work together and hope she has more in the future! I would also LOVE to see more word dies like this one!!

ReplyDeleteThank you Nicole!! You are going to have fun with this bundle!!
DeleteSo lovely. I am awaiting my order for the two stencil brushes from GKD to dedicate one to white ink. Question: Do you wash these after using them with pigment ink? I found your blog on GKD FB page and so glad I did. Blessings and joy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Shari! I wash my dedicated (for white pigment ink) with a little Dawn dish soap and warm water then dry the brush bristle side down on a towel. I do not wash it after each use, only when the brush becomes overly inked or becomes stiff.
DeleteHave a wonderful day!!
Love this card. Brilliant
