Heart Of Flowers - Alcohol Ink Inlay

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Today I will be playing around with some Alcohol Ink Pearls to create a bright colored rainbow background that I will use for an inlay technique. Alcohol Ink Pearls have added shimmer in them that gives a beautiful pearlescent sheen. I will be using the Heart Of Flowers die from Simon Says Stamp, that is one of my favorites! To highlight the inlay I will keep my card simple by adding a script greeting with a thin sentiment strip. I love the look of bright colors against a clean white background. Placing a black greeting across the focal image really enhances the colors! Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I cut a piece of Yupo Paper in half using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Next starting at the lower left corner of my panel I lay down lines of alcohol ink in rainbow order going across the panel. I start with Intrigue Alcohol Ink Pearl followed by Splendor Alcohol Ink Pearl, Alchemy Alcohol Ink Pearl, Sublime Alcohol Ink Pearl, Tranquil Alcohol Ink Pearl and lastly, Villainous Alcohol Ink Pearl.

Next, I add some Blending Solution across the panel then move the ink around using my Air Blower. I try to keep each color somewhat intact while blending into the next color. I want to create a blend where each color can be seen through my die cut. (I cut it close, ha!) I then set my panel aside to dry.

Using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer I cut a 4" x 5 1/2" panel out of White Cardstock. I then place the Heart Of Flowers Die over the upper center portion of the panel and adhere in place using Purple Tape. I run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine and remove all of the pieces using my Craft Pick. When using intricate dies, I place a Metal Adapter Plate under the bottom cutting plate of my die cut machine.

Next, I place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Wild Dandelion Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. Using Double Sided Tape I adhere my die cut panel onto the card base.

I now take my ink blended panel and place the Heart Of Flowers Die over an area that captures all colors of my inked panel and hold in place using Purple Tape. I run them through my Big Shot then carefully poke out all of the pieces using my Craft Pick keeping them in the design order as this will make it easier inlaying them. *Anytime I die cut my alcohol inked pieces I take a cotton ball with isopropyl alcohol and clean all of the cutting areas of my die to remove any ink it may have picked up.

Using Liquid Glue I add small drops of glue to a few of the open areas of my design. I then start picking up pieces using my Jewel Picker and start placing them over the glued areas. I continue with this process until all pieces are placed into my design.

For a greeting I use my Big Friend Shadow Die and cut out of Black Cardstock, I also take the coordinating shadow die and cut out of Vellum, running them through my Big Shot. I then take Liquid Glue to add small drops to the back of the friend die cut and adhere it onto the Vellum shadow die cut.

Next I take the Big Friend Shadow Die and use the word die to cut out of Black Cardstock two times. I stack and glue the two die cuts together then adhere them to the back of my die cut greeting using Liquid Glue. I like to add stacked dies to the back of the vellum to give my greeting a little lift and dimension. Finally I add small drops of Liquid Glue to the back of my greeting and adhere it over my alcohol inked design.

Taking a scrap piece of Black Cardstock I place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Tool. Next, I take a sentiment from the Tiny Words Stamp Set and stamp it using Versamark Ink. I add White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool. I use my Guillotine Paper Trimmer to trim my sentiment into a thin strip and trim down the ends. To add a little dimension to my sentiment I glue two thin strips of cardstock to the back then mount my sentiment onto my card front just under the greeting.

I use my Jewel Picker to add some Dazzling Diamond Rhinestones to the center of the flowers and scattered a couple using Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card. I love the look of the vibrant colors on this simple card! Sometimes less is more and I felt with the detail of this design and the bright colors, a simple greeting and sentiment was all that was needed. This die would also look great using colored cardstock or patterned papers to inlay. If you aren't a fan of inlaying small pieces you could just die cut the white panel and place it over an ink blended background for a similar look.

  1. I love the inlaid technique. I did my Christmas cards using this method. Instead of gluing in the separate pieces I had I used label paper adhered to the back of the die cut panel. Worked really well (learned this from Cathy Zielske). Your card is just stunning!

Shadow Stamping With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog!! ***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!    *I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -  stand alone  machines and bundles.   Today's card project is similar to yesterday's blog post using the shadow stamping technique, but today, I will be using a stencil. I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
