Today I have a fun, simple card that uses the emboss resist technique. I just love the new Salvaged Patina Distress Ink and thought I would use it to create a simple celebration card that could be used for birthdays, graduation or any other achievement in someone's life. I will start by embossing a panel then use an embossing folder to step up this simple card. I will then finish by adding a bold die cut and sentiment. I love to create backgrounds and finish with a bold die cut that allows the background technique to show through. I will be using Sea Glass cardstock from Gina K. Designs, I have found this to be a perfect match to the Salvaged Patina ink!! Let's get started!!
I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.
To start, I place the Dot Moire Background Stamp onto the door of my MISTI Stamp Positioner. Next, I cut a 4" x 5 1/4" panel out of White Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Because I will be stamping this panel in the center of my MISTI I add some Dot Adhesive Runner to the back of the panel to help hold it in place. I then place the panel face down onto the background stamp and close the base of my MISTI onto the stamp. I flip the MISTI over and press down onto the door so that the panel adheres to the base, my panel is now lined up perfectly with the stamp. Next, I prep the panel with my Anti Static Powder Tool then stamp the image using Versamark Ink. I then add White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.
Now that my stamping is finished and I no longer need the adhesive on the back, I use an Adhesive Eraser to remove it. It's now time for the emboss resist technique! Using a Blending Brush, I blend Salvaged Patina Distress Ink onto the middle of my panel. I concentrate most of the ink towards the center then use a light hand to fade out to white. After my ink blending is complete, I take a soft cloth to buff the embossed areas, removing any ink that is left on top.
To add some interest and texture to the panel, I place it into the Sunburst Embossing Folder and run it through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I love the dimension this folder gives, it adds so much to the panel without taking anything away from the embossing.
I now want to add a little more dimension to my panel. I trim a piece of Fun Foam to 3 3/4" x 5" using my Guillotine Trimmer. To help the foam adhere well and evenly to my panel, I add a Double Sided Adhesive Sheet to the back of it. I remove the release paper and adhere the Fun Foam onto my panel.
Next, I place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Sea Glass Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. I then add Liquid Glue to the back of my panel and adhere it onto the card base.
Taking the word die from the You Die Set I cut out of Sea Glass Cardstock two times, running them through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I stack and glue the die cuts together. Next, I take the shadow die from the You Die Set and cut out of White Cardstock three times, running them through my Big Shot. Again, I stack and glue the die cuts together then adhere the word die cut on top using Liquid Glue. *I like to stack extra die cuts to add dimension for a bolder look. Stacking extra die cuts to the shadow die cut helps the word to stand out more from the card.
I now add Liquid Glue to the back of my word die cut and mount it onto the center of my card using a T-Square Ruler to make sure it's straight. Next, I choose a sentiment from the Reverse Sentiment Strips - Love and trim it down to a thin strip using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I add Liquid Glue to the back of it and adhere it over the word die.
Using the small heart die from the You Die Set I cut out of White Cardstock three times, running them through my Big Shot. I stack and glue them together then mount onto the word die using Liquid Glue.
To finish, I use my Jewel Picker and add some Clear Round Drops with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.
I hope you enjoyed today's card. I love the look of a clean, simple card with lots of white space. This card could easily be changed with color and sentiment to fit any occasion. Using an embossing powder with some sparkle in it would also be a great idea. Stacking the die cuts helps to make the greeting stand out more against the background instead of it laying flat. Foam tape could also be used but I like the solid, even look of stacked die cuts, especially when the card is being mailed so it doesn't get flattened. **I purchased a bottle of Bearly Art Glue and used it for the first time on today's card. I love using liquid glue and this is a fantastic glue for any project! It comes with multiple tips, including a micro tip for adding tiny amounts of glue which works amazing!! If you've never tried this glue I highly recommend giving it a try the next time you are ready to order more liquid glue.
