Lace Flowers - Alcohol Lift Technique

Today I have a card that uses the alcohol lift technique paired with the Lace Flowers stamp set from Gina K. Designs. I will also be using the Birthday and Shadow die, also from Gina K. I have many panels that I have created in the past with alcohol inks so I thought I would use one of those on today's card showing the alcohol ink lifting technique. This technique is a great way to add subtle design and texture to an alcohol inked panel. I chose a panel made with reds and black ink along with a gold alloy. The lift ink pad lifts and removes the alcohol ink leaving a beautiful design, in this case a background stamp. The lift ink doesn't lift the gold alloy, instead leaves it on the panel the way it was created which allows the gold alloy to shine. Alcohol lift ink works great with fine detail or solid image stamps. I will include at the end of this post the same card made using blue and purple alcohol inks for another color variation. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start I chose a previously created alcohol inked panel for today's technique and cut it in half as I want a wide strip for the center of my card, I will save the other half of this panel for later use on this card. I then place my Petite Flourish Background Stamp onto the door of my MISTI Stamp Positioner. To help hold my panel into place I add Adhesive Dot Runner to a few areas on the back of the panel. I then place the panel face down onto the background stamp then close the base of my MISTI onto the door and flip it over. I then press onto the door of the MISTI to adhere the panel onto the base. The panel will now be lined up with the stamp.

I now ink up the Petite Flourish Background Stamp with my Alcohol Lift Ink Pad and stamp it onto my panel. Taking a clean soft cloth I blot the ink on the panel to remove it. I then use the cloth to lightly buff the panel which starts to reveal the stamped image. I clean off my stamp then repeat this process a few times until I am satisfied with the vibrancy of the stamped image on my panel. I then trim the inked panel down to 2 1/2" x 5 1/2" using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. *The more times the panel is stamped with the lift ink, the more vibrant the stamped image becomes. It is important to clean the stamp off between reinking so the ink pad doesn't become contaminated with the alcohol ink. Before cleaning the stamp you could also stamp the image onto a panel of cardstock to be used on another card.

I will now work on the other components of my card. Taking the large flower and two leaf dies from the Lace Flowers Die Set I cut from the remaining half of my alcohol inked panel, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine then set them aside while I work on the next step.

Next, I place a piece of Vellum into my MISTI and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then take the large flower and leaf images from the Lace Flowers Stamp Set and stamp them onto the Vellum using Versamark Ink. I add White Embossing Powder then heat set with my Heat Tool. *A couple of tips for getting a good embossed image is to make sure your ink pad is fairly juicy. When adding the embossing powder, I like to tap off the extra powder then apply the powder again over the images and gently shake my inked panel around a little to help the powder get into all of the areas of the design then heat set. Also, when embossing on vellum I like to heat the stamped images from the back side so the heat gun doesn't blow the powder around at all. I find these things help me get good results.

I give the embossing a couple of minutes to cool down then I take the coordinating dies from the Lace Flowers Die Set and cut each image out, running them through my Big Shot. Because I will be layering these onto the alcohol inked die cut pieces I previously cut and want the edges to show, I use my Micro Tip Scissors to trim along the embossed edge of each image removing the outer edge of the vellum. *I do not trim the edges of the vine image.

Using Liquid Glue, I add a drop to the center of the backside of the flower and a few small drops to the thicker embossed areas towards the center, where the glue won't show through on the vellum then adhere it onto the coordinating alcohol inked die cut. I keep the glue towards the center so the petals have a little lift around the edges. I then add small amounts of Liquid Glue to the base and top edge of the leaves and adhere them onto the coordinating alcohol inked die cuts.

Next, I take the Birthday And Shadow Die Set and use the outline die to cut out of the remaining alcohol inked panel and once out of White Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I stack and glue them together. *When using intricate dies I place a Metal Adaptor Plate under the bottom cutting plate of my die cut machine.

Taking the shadow die from the Birthday And Shadow Die Set I cut out of White Cardstock three times, running them through my Big Shot. I stack and glue them together using Liquid Glue then glue the outline word die cut onto the shadow die cut.

Next, I take my ink lifted panel and add Liquid Glue to the back of it then mount it to the center of a white card base. I then trim two thin strips of Mirror Cardstock using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer and adhere them against the edges of the panel using Liquid Glue.

I now start assembling my card. I start with the flower and add Liquid Glue to the back of it then mount it onto the top portion of the panel hanging off the edge a bit. I then add Liquid Glue to the base of the leaves and tuck them under the flower to adhere. I also add Liquid Glue to the back of my stacked greeting and adhere it to the center of the panel overlapping the flower a bit.

For a sentiment I place a piece of White Cardstock into my MISTI and prep it with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I choose a sentiment from the Lace Flowers Stamp Set and stamp it using Versamark Ink. I then add Gold Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.

Using one of the banner dies from the Master Layouts 3 Die Set I cut my sentiment out, running them through my Big Shot. I add Liquid Glue to the back of the sentiment and mount it just below my greeting. Finally, I add Liquid Glue to the back of the vine die cut piece and tuck it under the sentiment a bit.

To finish, I use my Jewel Picker and add a Dazzling Diamond Rhinestone to the center of the flower using Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

*Here also is the same card using different colors of alcohol ink.

I hope you enjoyed today's card! I love the fun, whimsical look of this card pairing the stamp set with the background stamp. I also love white embossing on vellum it gives such a fun look and can also be used to add elegance to a card. It's fun to see the same card created in different colors, it's amazing how color choices can really change the look of a card!

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
