More Brilliant Butterflies W/Oxide Stamping

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!

Today I have a card created with the More Brilliant Butterflies stamp set. If you love butterflies, you will love this set!! This is a two step stamp set with the solid portions of the wings being separate from the detailed overlay images. Each image has two solid pieces to the wings so you can stamp them separately in different colors of ink, then of course a beautiful detailed overlay for each butterfly. These images are so easy to line up, a brilliantly designed stamp set! This is the second addition to this series, today I am using the newest set. There are also dies available for this set, however, I will be stamping the images directly onto my panel instead of using dies. For my stamping, I will be using Distress Oxide inks for the solid images and a black ink for the overlay. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5" panel out of White Cardstock using my Tim Holtz Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then remove the foam pad from my MISTI Stamp Positioner (because I am using a red rubber stamp) and place the Script Bold Prints Background Stamp onto the door of my MISTI. I then add a little Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of my panel and lay it face down onto the stamp, making sure to line it up straight with the script. I then close the base of my MISTI onto the stamp then flip the MISTI back over and press down onto the stamp so the panel adheres to the base. Now when I open the door of my MISTI the panel is perfectly lined up and ready to stamp. Next, I ink up the stamp with Fog Gray Ink then stamp it onto my  panel.

I now place the panel into the lower right corner of my MISTI and place an image (top wings) from the More Brilliant Butterflies Stamp Set just a bit higher than center on my panel. I pick the stamp up with the door of my MISTI and ink it up with Peeled Paint Distress Oxide Ink and stamp it onto the panel. To get good coverage, I stamp it a couple of times. I now line up the image of the lower wings just below and barely touching the previously stamped image. Inking this image up with Shabby Shutters Distress Oxide Ink I stamp it onto my panel a couple of times to get good coverage.

I now go back with the stamp of the top wings and line it up below the first stamped image. I ink it up with Stormy Sky Distress Oxide Ink and stamp it onto my panel a couple of times to get good coverage. I now take the stamp of the lower wings and line it up just below and barely touching the previously stamped image. I ink up the stamp with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Ink and stamp it onto the panel a couple of times to get good coverage.

Going back to the stamp of the top wings I position it above the center stamped image then ink it up with Victorian Velvet Distress Oxide Ink and stamp it onto my panel a couple of times to get good coverage. Finally, I take the stamp of the lower wings and line it up just below and barely touching the previously stamped image. I ink this stamp with Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Ink and stamp it onto my panel a couple of times to get good coverage.

For my overlay stamping it is very important that I keep the panel snug into the lower right corner of my MISTI as I will later be stamping an image where I want the stamping to be in this same position I am stamping now. Taking the detail stamp from the More Brilliant Butterflies Stamp Set for this butterfly I line it up over the bottom image then ink it with Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink and stamp it onto the butterfly. Next, I line up the same detail stamp over the top image and again stamp it with Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink onto the butterfly. For the last stamping I line up the detail stamp over the center image then stamp it with Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink onto the butterfly. *I do not remove the stamp from my MISTI. The reason I stamped the center butterfly last is because I will be coming back to stamp this position a bit later and wanted the stamp lined up in this position.

To break up the panel a bit and to add some interest and texture, I apply a small amount of Black Soot Distress Paint to my Glass Mat along with a little water. I then take a small paintbrush and wet it with the water then pick up some of the black paint and spatter it lightly onto my panel. *This is a great paint that is perfect for spattering with bold dark pigment.

Taking my You Die I cut out of Fresh Asparagus Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine three times. I then place my panel back into the lower right corner of my MISTI. Next, I add a small amount of Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of one of the die cuts to hold it into place and position it over the center butterfly, centering the butterfly's body in the opening of the "O". I ink up the stamp with Versafine Clair Nocturn Ink and stamp it onto my die cut. Because I stamped the center butterfly last and left the stamp in my MISTI, I now have a die cut stamped with the same stamp that will perfectly line up.

For a card base I place a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Fresh Asparagus Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 4 1/4" creating a side folding card base. I then add Liquid Glue to the back of my panel and mount it onto my card base, centering it so there is even space at the top and bottom of the panel.

I now stack and glue the three die cuts together using Liquid Glue, making sure the stamped die cut is on top. I then add Liquid Glue to the back of the dies and line up the stamped image on the stacked die cuts over the stamped image on the center of my panel making sure all of the design lines up and press down to adhere.

For my sentiment I choose one from the Reverse Sentiment Strips Love and trim it out using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer. I then add Liquid Glue to the back of the strip and adhere it over my word die cut.

Using my Jewel Picker I add Raindrops Mix with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

What a fun card to make, I really LOVE this stamp set!! I debated over embossing the detail stamp but decided to go with the black ink. I love the results of the bold black against the soft creamy colors of the Oxide inks. The image I used on today's card is just one of four in this set, there are some fun, unique shapes to the other butterflies, including a side view. I think a solid image stamped in bright ink colors with a die cut white embossed on vellum overlay would be beautiful also!

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
