Holiday Tapestry - Shadow Stamping

 Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I want to start out by thanking everyone for the support and nice comments you all leave for me. I truly appreciate the support of this blog!! I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!!!

Today I have a super simple card featuring the Holiday Tapestry stamp set from Gina K. Designs. I wanted to try out this beautiful image using the shadow stamping technique and I was thrilled with the results!! To achieve a "shadow" image, I first stamped my image with white pigment ink then shift the panel just a bit and stamp with colored ink. This slight shift allows the white ink of the image to offset the colored ink, creating a shadow look and giving a contrast to the image. I kept this card clean and simple by only adding a greeting allowing the technique to show through. All of the stamps, ink and cardstock are from Gina K. Designs. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

To start, I take the second biggest die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set and cut out of In The Navy Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. I then add a little Adhesive Dot Runner to the back of the panel and place it into my MISTI Stamp Positioner, lining the top left corner of the panel up at the 5" and 2 1/2" marks of my MISTI. I then position my (very well loved, as you can see from the ink staining!!) stamp from the Holiday Tapestry Stamp Set over the panel. **It is important to take note of the position of the panel so it can be slightly shifted for the second stamping.

Next, I ink up the stamp with White Pigment Ink and stamp it onto the panel. I ended up stamping the image three times to get a bright, clear image. I then cleaned off all of the white ink from my stamp and left it attached to my MISTI in the same position. Before moving onto the next step I make sure the pigment ink is dry, if not I heat set the image.

I now pick up the panel and slightly shift it down and over to the right just a bit. I then ink up the stamp with In The Navy Ink and stamp onto my panel. I ended up stamping the blue ink three times to get a good crisp image. **Notice at the top left corner of the panel that it is just off from it's previous placement. This creates the offset that allows the white ink to "shadow" the image. The second photo gives a close up look at the offset.

I use my Craft Heat Tool to dry the pigment ink then place the panel back into my MISTI and prep the lower right portion with my Anti Static Powder Bag. I then take a greeting from the Holiday Tapestry Stamp Set and ink it with Versamark Ink then stamp it onto the panel. I add White Embossing Powder and heat set with my Heat Tool.

Next, I do a little ink blending with my Blender Brush using In The Navy Ink around all four sides of the panel and finish with a small amount of Black Onyx Ink around the very edges to add a little interest.

Using the biggest die from the Master Layouts 1 Die Set I cut out of White Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. I then use Terrific Tape and adhere the two panels together.

Next, I place a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of In The Navy Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score at 5 1/2" creating a side folding card base. I then use Terrific Tape and adhere my panel onto the card base.

To finish, I use my Jewel Picker to add some pearls from my stash with Liquid Glue and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and learned a couple of tips on offset shadow stamping. I love the results with this huge detailed image so much that I couldn't cover it up! I chose to just add a simple greeting and leave it as is. I hope everyone has a nice relaxing weekend and finds a little time to craft. Come back on Monday for another fun card project!

  3. I hadn't noticed the black shading on the corners. It does add dimension. Also, I thought it was gold around the edges, but the white is great so I don't have to use metallic paper!

    1. Thank you for visiting Darlene!! Another tip if you are low on or out of metallic paper is to emboss the edges of your layered piece with gold or silver. It gives the look of metallic paper and beautifully matches the embossed image!
I show the process on a past blog. Just type in "Merry Christmas Holiday Tapestry" into the search bar at the top of my blog page.

I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
