Mandala Maker 2 - Slimline Tone On Tone

Hello, welcome to my blog!!

I enjoy card making and bringing my creations to you, this wouldn't be possible without your support, so again, thank you!! *Affiliate links are used at no additional cost to you. Thank you so much for your support, it is greatly appreciated!!

Today I am creating an edge to edge shaker mini slimline card using a tone on tone background made with the new Mandala Maker 2 stamp set. This stamp set is included in the Eclectic Card Kit from Gina K. Designs along with two other stamp sets, dies and cardstock. Also included in the kit is a bonus large wreath builder template to create large wreaths and mandalas! I love the large size of this wreath builder, you can create 4.75", 5.25" and 5.75" panels with the templates. I will be using the new Master Layout 7 die set to cut my panel down to create a mini slimline card that fits perfectly into the new slimline envelopes that Gina now carries. All of the cardstock, stamps, ink and dies that I use are from Gina K. Designs. Let's get started!!

I will be doing all of my work today on my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat

To start I cut a 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" panel out of White Cardstock using my Guillotine Paper Trimmer. Using my Blending Brushes I start by blending Bubble Gum Pink Ink onto the top portion of my panel and fade the ink out towards the center. Next, I blend Sweet Mango Ink onto the center of the panel, blending back into the previous color a bit and fading out towards the bottom of the panel. I then blend Wild Dandelion Ink onto the bottom of the panel, blending back into the previous color.

Next, I place the 5.75" Large Wreath Builder Template into my MISTI Stamp Positioner and adhere it down with some tape to hold it into place. It is very important to be sure the door of your MISTI is clean, as part of the door will come into contact with the overhanging cardstock. I then place my blended panel into the template, making sure the two corners on the left are nested into the template. Next, I fit the other two templates along with the center template grid into the template over the blended panel. I want to use this grid to line up my first stamp to ensure my image will be centered correctly. I choose a stamp from the Mandala Maker 2 Stamp Set and center it over one of the lines on the template. I then pick the stamp up with the door of my MISTI and remove the other templates and center grid template. *To better see the lines on my center grid, I took a ruler and sharpie marker to trace over the lines, now they are easily seen through my stamps when I want to line them up.

I want to do some tone on tone stamping so I ink the stamp with Bubble Gum Pink Ink and stamp it onto the panel over the pink blended area. I then rotate my panel and stamp two more times onto the pink blended area with Bubble Gum Pink Ink. I now clean off my stamp and again rotate the panel where I am now over the orange blended area. I ink my stamp with Sweet Mango Ink and stamp it onto the panel. I rotate the panel and clean off the stamp then ink it with Wild Dandelion Ink and stamp it onto the yellow blended area of the panel. I continue to rotate the panel and stamp it until I reach the first image.

I now take another image from the Mandala Maker 2 Stamp Set and position it between two of the previously stamped images. I pick up the stamp with the door of my MISTI and ink it with Bubble Gum Pink Ink and stamp it onto the panel. I then rotate the panel and stamp it again with Bubble Gum Pink Ink. Next, I clean off the stamp, rotate the panel and stamp the image with Sweet Mango Ink as I am now over the orange blended area, and repeat. I clean off my stamp, rotate the panel and stamp the image now in Wild Dandelion Ink over the yellow blended area until I reach my first image.

To fill in more of the center area of my design, I choose another image from the Mandala Maker 2 Stamp Set and line it up between two of the previously stamped images then stamp it using Sweet Mango Ink. Again, I rotate the panel and stamp it following the coordinating blended area colors using Bubble Gum Pink Ink and Wild Dandelion Ink until I reach my first image.

I now choose another image from the Mandala Maker 2 Stamp Set and stamp it using Bubble Gum Pink Ink, Sweet Mango Ink and Wild Dandelion Ink over the coordinating blended colors as I did in the previous steps.

I choose my final image from the Mandala Maker 2 Stamp Set and stamp it to the left of my previous image using Bubble Gum Pink Ink and continue rotating the panel and stamping it with Sweet Mango Ink and Wild Dandelion Ink onto the coordinating blended areas of the panel until I reach the first image. Using this same image, I line it up to the right of the small stamped image and stamp it using Bubble Gum Pink Ink onto the pink blended areas. I then continue to rotate the panel and stamp the image with Sweet Mango Ink and Wild Dandelion Ink onto the coordinating blended areas. My mandala is now full and complete.

Next, I take the large stitched rectangle die from the Master Layout 7 Die Set and tape it down over the center of my stamped panel then run them through my Big Shot Die Cut Machine. The two leftover end pieces were too pretty to throw away so I gave them to my daughter for bookmarks!

Taking a piece of clear packaging I cut it to be a little bigger than my stamped panel. I then add Terrific Tape to the back of the panel and place it face down onto the clear packaging. Starting at the bottom of the panel I fold the packaging over the panel onto the adhesive. I repeat this for both of the sides but do NOT adhere the top closed yet. *The packaging I use for my edge to edge shaker cards is the packaging that stamps and die sets come in. It's normally something that would get thrown away... not anymore, it's a great way to recycle!!

I now take some small, clear beads from my stash and some Lemonade Sequins and add them between the packaging and the panel. Next, I fold the top portion of the packaging over the panel and onto the adhesive. Taking a pair of scissors, I cut off the packaging overhang from each corner. I now have an edge to edge shaker and the pieces move around freely.

Taking the layering rectangle die from the Master Layout 7 Die Set I cut out of Black Cardstock, running them through my Big Shot. I add Terrific Tape to the back of my shaker panel and adhere it onto the black panel.

For my card base I place a 6 1/4" x 6 1/2" piece of Innocent Pink Cardstock into my Scor Buddy and score it at 3 1/4" creating a mini slimline card base. I then add Terrific Tape to the back of my panel and adhere it onto the card base.

I now take a piece of scrap White Cardstock and blend Sweet Mango Ink onto it using my Blending Brush. I then place the piece into my MISTI and stamp a sentiment from the It's All You Stamp Set onto it using Amalgam Obsidian Ink.

Taking the smaller stitched circle from the Master Layout 3 Die Set I cut out the sentiment and take the layering die from the same die set to cut out of Black Cardstock, running them all through my Big Shot. Using Liquid Glue I adhere the two die cuts together.

To finish, I add some Foam Tape to the back of my sentiment and adhere it to the center of the design on the card front and this completes my card.

I hope you enjoyed today's card, this was a fun size to make! The colors I chose for this card were inspired by the sequins I used to fill the shaker panel. They are new from Gina K. and are so shiny and beautiful! This is my first time making a mini slimline and it was a nice change from the normal A2 cards I make. The dies make it quick and easy to create this fun size and there are also envelopes to fit this card available on Gina's website. If you have never used a wreath builder template before and would like to see a more detailed explanation of how it works, Gina has many wonder videos showing the process on her YouTube channel. I have a lot going on this week so I will not have time to post another card but I will be back next week with more fun cards to share with you! Have a wonderful weekend!!

  1. This is a lovely card. Always like ideas for slimline cards. I am also scoping out cards with the Gina K Mandala. I have not yet invested in one and trying to decide if I would want to. I imagine making up a pattern would be fun. I didn't realize at first that it is also a shaker card my favorite . This card is a big winner all the way around to me. Will now watch your blog .

Shadow Stamping With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog!! ***I wanted to let everyone know that Scrapbook.com has kicked off Freebie February!! Every couple of days they will be offering free items along with great sales! Check often as the sales will be frequently changing. I have placed a store logo on the front page of my blog just down below my profile that brings you directly to their store!    *I know die cut machines can be a bigger investment, but if you are in need of one and looking for a good price, Scrapbook.com has some really good prices on Big Shots -  stand alone  machines and bundles.   Today's card project is similar to yesterday's blog post using the shadow stamping technique, but today, I will be using a stencil. I will be using kraft cardstock as well as black cardstock. This is a fun technique to use on any color of cardstock. I wanted to show the look on a light colored cardstock vs a dark color. The key to using any color of cardstock is to first lay down white pigment ink follo

Embossing With Stencils

Hello, welcome to my blog! Today's card project focuses on heat embossing with stencils. Stencils are great for ink blending and are economical. Did you know you can also heat emboss with your stencils? I am showing an example of white heat embossing, but you could also ink blend your stencil then heat emboss with clear embossing powder, if you don't mind getting your embossing pad dirty. Some people have a clean embossing pad dedicated for embossing only, and another embossing pad that they use for different techniques that may get the pad dirty. Let's get started!! To start, I cut a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white Neenah cardstock panel using my Tim Holtz Guillotine paper trimmer. I add Gina K. Designs Adhesive Dot Runner  to the corners on the back side of my white card panel to temporarily hold it down onto my Tonic Studios Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat . Next, I prep my panel with my Anti Static powder bag. I then place my Gina K. Designs Water Droplets stencil
